Cornish Hedgerows

As it isΒ another lovely day (and I’m still on holiday) I went for a walk to the next village, Ladock, a round trip of just under three and a half miles, so an nice distance for a wander.

In Ladock I visited the village shop (which turned out to be essentially a Portakabin) and bought an ice cream. I also bought a bottle of Diet Coke to drink on the way back as I’m notorious for wandering around in the sun without drinking anything, which leads to an afternoon of headaches and Paracetamol.

I’s been beautiful my whole holiday! It’s set to start changing tomorrow so I tried to get as much time outside as possible, which is very unusual for me. Since I moved to a tiny friendly little village I seem to be able to go outside worry-free – today was the first time I’ve worn shorts in public for decades πŸ™‚

The air temperature was probably about 22C which is “hot” for Cornwall (and about as hot as I can stand).

72F is “hot”? It’s 79F here and considered “cool” for this time of year.

The absolute maximum in this country is mid to high 80’s F, maybe low 90’s F, but that’s usually only in the South East of the country. Cornwall maximum would be about 80F.

It is beautiful, I’m glad I got out and about this holiday to appreciate it (and remember it – spending all my time at work, it’s easy to forget).

Terrific photos, thanks for the tour! When my world tour comes to the UK, I will be scouting locations for my Shell Beach Inn franchises!

It’s a deal! Isn’t Bristol a primary beach holiday destination?

It might be – I’m rarely that far north!

It was a lovely (morning) walk. And a real bonus to find a little shop selling ice creams at the half-way point πŸ™‚

They are foxgloves as far as I know. My parents had foxgloves (I remember them being as high as me, which tells you how old I was at the time), so they’re the first (and almost the last!) flower I learned to recognise.

I love your hedgerows. It’s like driving through green tunnels wherever you go. They were so neat. It must help prevent unemployment, keeping them all tidy πŸ™‚

High hedges are a feature of Cornish country roads. This road is awfully narrow to drive down, though – a couple of times I had to squash myself into the hedge to let a car past.
They have actually been cutting the hedges all along the country roads I take to get to the main road to work over the past couple of days (a tractor with a cutting attachment).

There must be hundreds of miles of these little country roads around Cornwall. I’m lucky that there’s a nice little one with very little traffic just round the corner! It makes for a lovely walk.
