A class you wish you would have taken?
Hmm. Last time I answered this I said “Home Economics”. I’ve changed my mind now, though. When you’re a kid at school I don’t think there’s anything much that’s taught that you can’t learn on your own. I’m trying to remember back to when I was at school and what courses I could have taken.

I think if we move ahead to when I was in Sixth Form (age 16-18), I would have liked to have taken history.

Are you scared of heights?
No, I avoid heights because I’m scared of hurtling to the ground and splattering all over the pavement.

Are you a good cook? If so, do you consider yourself a chef?
I cook and bake some stuff and it turns out okay. I don’t think that qualifies me to be a cook, though, and definitely not a chef. I always think of “chef” as more of a job title, and I don’t have the necessary qualities, such as being good at cooking and being able to yell and swear at people all day long.

Apropos of nothing, here are some photos from the Japanese Garden in St Mawgan.

A Lanhydrock Selection

August 12, 2018 16 comments

In the absence of Share Your World this week, here is a small selection of photos I took on a visit to Lanhydrock a few weeks ago.

I’d give you some history of the place but I’m more interested in looking around than reading the little information notices.

Since we are approaching the hottest part of our summer in the northern hemisphere, what’s your favourite ice-cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet flavour?
I like all sorts, but for preference I tend towards fruit flavours. I do have the occasional toffee/biscuit flavoured ice cream, but that’s more a winter thing I reckon. Fruity is better for a hot day!

Here is a photo of my current ice cream drawer. For a treat I would buy mint choc chip or creamy white ice cream with raspberry/strawberry/blackcurrant sauce swirled in, but that stuff is expensive.

How often do you people watch?
I don’t really people watch. I’m not generally in the position to, I’m always on my way to or from rather than sitting and watching.

If you had a choice which would be your preference – salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?
Fresh water lakes, I reckon. They would be quieter than beaches. I’m surrounded by beaches on both coasts, though I don’t live near one, the closest is 7 or 8 miles away I guess. But they get really busy.

Here’s a lake in my vicinity (Colliford).

Colliford Lake

And here’s a bit of sea I took from our recent work summer party, later on as the sun was setting and my tummy was full of BBQ food. I was concentrating more on the plants than the sea when I took the picture, though.

Last Week’s Snow

March 25, 2018 28 comments

Here are some pictures I took last Sunday. It is very rare here to get snowflakes large enough to show up on camera.

I messed about with the first one in Lightroom. I don’t know what I’m doing but it’s fun pushing the sliders around to see what will happen 🙂

I shrank them all a bit to make the file size smaller.

Godrevy in High Zoom

July 9, 2017 17 comments

I took a little trip to Godrevy to try out my new zoom lens. It’s an Olympus 75-300mm (150-600mm equivalent on my Micro 4/3 camera). I don’t have a tripod so I wanted to see how things went. Obviously I usually wouldn’t use a big zoom for landscapes but it did a good job of the flowers and I could barely see the helicopter or seal with the naked eye 🙂

Also, I know the white balance is off. My camera warned me about it but I don’t know which of the million buttons to push to do that so I left it alone.

Here’s a seal on max zoom. He’s there on the rock 🙂

What is the most incredible natural venue that you’ve ever seen in person?
Ooh, too much to choose from! I’ll just state “Cornwall” (I have’t been around many places).

How many siblings do you have? What’s your birth order?
I’m the older of two brothers.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?
I don’t want to be a shoe, to be trodden on all day. But if I had to be I’d be something comfortable. A pair of those fluffy slippers which look like bunny rabbits.

What is the strangest/weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
I’m not at all adventurous when it comes to food. In Cornwall we’re all about pasties and fish and chips. I do eat very spicy stuff, but not exotically spicy, just spicy sauces on normal food.

HotSauces

I did go out on a limb once and tried calamari. Didn’t like it.

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World. How did it get to be week 45? I’m not ready to start thinking about Christmas. Not ready, I say.

Describe your own outlook on life in seven words or less. (NOTE:  does not  have to be a sentence.)
Just take it day by day.

Where do you like to vacation?
I just stick around here.

Candy factories (sweets or treats including chocolate) of the entire world have become one and will now be making only one kind of candy. Which kind, if you were calling the shots?
I really like anything with a chocolate outside and some kind of squishy inside, like praline or whatever, so I’ve decided to team up with Dawn over at The Day After (Lingering Visions) and have a Lindt truffle factory. We only need one more vote to make it happen. It’s the law! Who’s with us?

Complete this sentence: Something that anyone can do that will guarantee my smile is…
Smile at me. It would be rude not to smile back. And it’s nice to be smiled at.

Misty Cornwall

On my way to work this morning I pulled over into a lay-by to take these photos. I didn’t have my camera with me but my ever-present phone seemed up to the task :-).

Daily Post Photo Challenge – Boundaries

October 2, 2015 25 comments

This week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge is all about boundaries – of any description.

The path is clearly marked. Do not cross this boundary! (Godrevy, Cornwall.)
