St Michael’s Mount Part 1
Here are some photos I took on a trip to St Michael’s Mount a couple of weeks ago. It’s off the south coast of Cornwall, near Marazion. I was given a guide leaflet which probably had some history in it, which I didn’t read :-).
I’ll do this in a few parts as I can’t choose between all the photos I took.
I parked up the beach a mile or so away to avoid the tourist traffic, so I had a nice little walk. There it is in the distance.
The tide is in so it looks like I will have to brave the high seas to get there.
And so we set sail in the mighty ship “Sea Mist”. I hope we don’t sink!
At last, after a long and harrowing sea voyage (3 minutes), tired but victorious, we reached our destination.
Hmm, looks like a bit of a climb.
Up I go, stopping often to take in the view (and catch my breath).
If that tiny hatch leads to the Giant’s Well, I’m guessing he was often thirsty.
The Cornish flag flies proudly over a bunch of slightly dodgy-looking cannons. Let’s hope we don’t have to repel invaders!
Next time we’ll take a look at the view and then enter the house (where photography was allowed!).
Pretty nice! I was just reading on the site that there are about 30 people who live on the island, which sounds great, until it says they all socialize and have a lot of events together…then it seems like 29 people too many for me 😀
Looking forward to the rest of the pictures!

But being on an island all by yourself would be very lonely 😦
I know what you mean, though. It sounds like there’s almost an expectation to turn up to everything. It would do my head in!

But, I’d only be a three-minute boat ride away! A harrowing, heart-stopping boat ride…but still only three minutes!
(and that’s exactly it…no way to hide or sneak away from said events)

No, everybody’s pretty much living on top of each other.

I haven’t been there for 30 years (school trip) but I had a couple of days off and I thought, why not, it’s not far. It was a lovely day out. I’ll post the rest of the photos soon!

I’ve seen beautiful pictures from all over the world, but the great thing about England is it’s such a small country a couple of weeks allow you to see all of it.

Lovely photos, Ali. I’m so glad you survived that gruelling boat trip and didn’t even get sea sick. I’ve never been to St. Michael’s Mount, but it looks like somewhere I ought to see. 🙂

I could have been drowned or anything! Two quid the boat cost. Two quid! At least as a National Trust member the rest was free 🙂
I reckon you’d like it.

That was an expensive three minutes. At least you got to walk back. Yes, there are advantages to being in the National Trust. We’ve been members for years, as well as members of English Heritage. They’re so useful on days out. 🙂

It was nice to do the boat and the causeway, though, and since I saved the £8+ on entry to the house, I didn’t mind 🙂
I’ve sometimes thought about joining English Heritage as well, but I don’t really go out and about all that much. Maybe one day when I’m happily married 🙂

The causeway reminds me of Lindisfarne. The castle at the end of it is also National Trust. Perhaps one day you will be tottering around English Heritage sites as well, just like Nick and I. 🙂

I did go to Tintagel which is English Heritage. I had a look on their website and they own quite a few standing stone-sites and castle ruins around Cornwall.

Standing stone sites are among my favourite places to visit. I’ll be sure to seek those out in Cornwall – not to mention the castle ruins. Thank you for that. 🙂

I enjoyed your trip backwards… i was late in viewing everything. I am envious. That would have been awesome to see!

Oh no – you’re only allowed to go round one way. There were arrows and everything!
It’s a great place to visit.

I remember visiting St Michael’s mount fifteen years or so ago with friends. 🙂 Thank you for the virtual tour and the walk down Memory Lane!
