MFTS – Mittens

Here’s my story for Barbara Beacham’s Mondays Finish the Story. We get a photo, an opening sentence (in bold in my story) and then 150 words to finish the story.

Click on the blue froggy for all this week’s contributions. Here is a silly little piece from me for this week.

Now this is living the life of Riley.

He didn’t know exactly who this “Riley” was, nor whether Riley was upset that he’d had his life hijacked. He only cared that he was living it. Cuddles, food and water courtesy of his human servants, naps whenever he liked, he could pretty much do as he wanted. This “Riley” fellow could get stuffed.

That was fine by Mittens, because Mittens, like all cats, was pretty self-centred. He had his humans wrapped around his little paw. A purr here, some ball-chasing hijinks there and they’d do exactly what he wanted.

The life of Riley indeed! This was a summer that would never end!

Or would it? OR WOULD IT?

Across the street, a dark shape lurked in the undergrowth. It glared at the distant shape of little Mittens and growled. Black tabby Riley wanted his life back and Mittens would pay for living it.

Oh yes, Mittens would pay.

Great story – revenge is sweet.

  2. October 12, 2015 at 5:48 pm

Well, if they each have 9, surely Riley can spare one life out of them? Selfish kitty!!

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:37 am

Ha, very true! Maybe Mittens took the “best” one 🙂

  3. October 12, 2015 at 7:54 pm

Riley is planning his revenge attack! Watch out Mittens!

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:39 am

Will Mittens discover Riley’s plan in time? I think Mittens is too comfortable to be watching his back.

I’m counting on Mittens! That dark black tabby may be the one in trouble! LOL Great story!

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:42 am

Yes, there’s more to Mittens than just a fluffy tummy I reckon 🙂
      I’m glad you liked it!

  5. October 12, 2015 at 10:22 pm

There seems to be an epic revenge drama in the works here. lol. Hopefully Mittens and Riley can learn to peacefully coexist.

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:46 am

I’m sure there’s enough food and tummy rubs for both of them 🙂

Very sinister. I feel a little sorry for Riley but I also feel sorry for Mittens.

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:47 am

It’s hard to tell who the aggressor is here. Hopefully they’ll learn to get along.

Oops. Poor little Mittens. Or should I worry.
Just how did Mittens get the house whole in the first place?
Just how did Riley get ousted?
Mmm. I’m thinking Mittens may not be a innocent as she looks.

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:53 am

There’s certainly a back story here. Mittens may well be the bully in this scenario. Maybe we should be cheering Riley on!

Nice twist. Revenge seems to be just around the corner! (I loved the dum dum DUM at the end!)

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:54 am

Riley’s almost ready to make his move and his revenge will be sweet! I’m glad you liked my cartoonesque ending 🙂

I agree with some of the other comments…there is more to this story! What happened to Riley? I love the drama and the sense of humor! Mittens will pay!

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:55 am

It’s all about to kick off! Riley’s not taking this lying down. I’m glad you liked my silly little story 🙂

I love the last sentence Ali! Thank you for participating in the Mondays Finish the Story challenge. I appreciate your contribution. Be well… ^..^

You remember that tale about the three little kittens who lost their mittens? Well, they weren’t really mittens. They were boxing gloves, and mittens has hers stashed under the cushion. Her two sisters are lurking behind the sofa. Riley is going to be in for one very big surprise 😀

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:56 am

Ooh, yes. He’ll say “you and whose army” and then they’ll all leap out 🙂 Excellent ending to the tale!

Geez, doesn’t Riley realize he has 8 more lives he can live besides the one MIttens took? Surely one of them is just as fulfilling…

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:57 am

It’s the principal of the thing…

  14. October 13, 2015 at 6:27 am

Run, Mittens, run! Cats are conniving. Mittens will certainly pay.

    • October 13, 2015 at 7:59 am

It’s Riley’s turn for payback. I wonder how long these two have been playing this game? Or if the humans notice the colour of their resident cat keeps changing 🙂

If Mittens took Riley’s life then Riley must be a ghost and Mittens is quite safe. Go to the light Riley…..

    • October 13, 2015 at 8:22 am

If Riley is a ghost, I think Mittens is in for quite the haunting 🙂

I like the literal take you took. One down, eight to go! Well done.

    • October 13, 2015 at 5:02 pm

Thanks. Good thing cats have second, third, … chances!

  17. October 13, 2015 at 1:00 pm

Uh oh. I see trouble ahead. The kitten will pay. Is this a type of sibling rivalry, even though they’re not siblings? Well done, Ali.

    • October 13, 2015 at 5:03 pm

There’s definitely going to be some sort of trouble! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

  18. October 13, 2015 at 1:42 pm

Riley sounds very …catty 🙂 Nice one.

    • October 13, 2015 at 5:05 pm

He is that 🙂 And he never forgets when he’s been wronged!

  19. October 13, 2015 at 2:17 pm

Loved it! A good cat fight brewing … who will win? Am backing Riley.

    • October 13, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Riley certainly has the motivation. Mittens has gotten too comfortable I think 🙂

Mittens needs to befriend the bulldog down the street. Everybuddy needs a buddy!

  21. October 13, 2015 at 10:41 pm

Things are not looking good for Mittens! A very fun read, Ali. 🙂

    • October 14, 2015 at 12:05 pm

I fear he won’t even know what hit him :-(. He doesn’t seem to be paying much attention.

Ooh, so Gingery Riley’s a usurper – or perhaps just a replacement. Whichever, it looks like he’s in for a rough ride. Great description of a cat’s attitude to life.

  23. October 14, 2015 at 8:37 am

Oooo, I see a whole series here entitled ‘The cat wot finally got the cream’ lol

  24. October 15, 2015 at 7:10 pm

Oh no poor Mittens. Mittens sounds so sweet and that Black Tabby Riley sounds like Freddy Kruger. Good story for Halloween. 🙂

    • October 15, 2015 at 7:26 pm

I don’t think fluffy little Mittens stands much of a chance against aggressive tabby Riley 😦
      I’m glad you liked it!
