Buster Must Die!

This is my contribution for Evil Squirrel’s Third Annual Contest of Whatever.

Despite the fact that I can’t draw, I’ve entered a story in pictures! The only rule this year is that we must include Buster, and Buster Must Die! You can’t tell from my pictures, but Buster is a possum, who dies on a regular basis so this is nothing new for the poor chap. In fact, having to keep him alive would have been a bigger challenge.

If you’d like to see what Buster really looks like by someone who can draw, click here.

This is great. You didn’t half put poor Buster through the ringer lol

    • February 21, 2016 at 6:10 pm

Yeah, but nothing that hasn’t happened to him before 🙂

  2. February 21, 2016 at 5:31 pm

Thank you for making Buster much more appreciative of the fact that I generally only put him through one hardship a week! I knew you would come up with something appropriately gruesome for my contest! Best of luck defending your CoW title!

    • February 21, 2016 at 6:11 pm

I thought since Buster’s the star of this year’s CoW I should try to do him justice! Though after the way I drew him he’s probably glad to finally slip away…

  3. February 21, 2016 at 5:31 pm

Poor Buster! A very amusing story, Ali. 🙂 Good luck in the contest.

    • February 21, 2016 at 6:16 pm

It wouldn’t be a Buster story if he was still alive at the end 🙂

Now I know where your real talents lie…
How many ways can you kill a possum, I ask myself! Fun! 🙂

Haha. This is great. I’m still laughing.

    • February 21, 2016 at 6:36 pm

I’m glad you liked it! I had to pull out all the stops for ES’s competition. I’ve always wanted to kill poor Buster myself, it looked such fun 🙂

  8. February 21, 2016 at 7:11 pm

But do not fear! He’ll be back! Like the monsters in our favorite scary movies, he shall return … perhaps a little bit angry? Hmm. Good one!!

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:23 am

He will certainly be back, but Buster always takes it in his stride!

  9. February 21, 2016 at 8:28 pm

Buster is going to be the luckiest possum in the world in his next life… His bad karma has to be running on empty!!! Lucky marsupial…

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:23 am

That’s true! Until Evil Squirrel kills him off again…

LOL! Brilliant! I love the drawings and in particular the drone. Sir “Ownsalot” HaHaHaHa.
The sound affects are also very entertaining. Have you considered doing more toons?

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:24 am

They take so long and I’m very lazy 🙂
      If there’s one thing I wish I could do, it’s draw…

Great drawings. If only it was that easy to catch up to a possum. especially the ones that are eating my grapes and peaches, which ain’t even ripe enough for us to eat yet.
    Enjoyed your story.

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:26 am

Maybe you can try chasing them through a bush and off a cliff 🙂

  12. February 21, 2016 at 10:24 pm

What fun! And the drawings were fabulous additons!

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:28 am

I was quite excited when this year’s competition was all about killing Buster. ES always make it look so fun 🙂

  13. February 21, 2016 at 10:48 pm

Poor Buster. He has some kind of life. Art work is cute.

  14. February 21, 2016 at 11:58 pm

So sad, but glad buster came out alive! The pictures are great 👍

Aw.. what a story.. Loved the story. The illustrations are good, of course, I couldnt make out Buster as a possum. But, once I imagined it correctly, the rest was good.

Poor Buster has more lives than a cat. If you dislike someone all you need to do is write a story about Buster to get it out of you system. 🙂 — Suzanne

His deaths are probably up in triple figures by now!

  17. February 22, 2016 at 7:22 am

Oh for heaven’s sake…but he will rise again. Love that about fiction.

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:32 am

He certainly will. He’s risen more times than I can count!

    Poor little Buster 😦

    • February 22, 2016 at 12:36 pm

Fortunately he’s used to such treatment 🙂

  19. February 22, 2016 at 2:42 pm

Hahahaha! Poor Buster. He went through a lot to just die at the end. 😀

  20. February 23, 2016 at 1:33 am

Do you remember the clay character Mr. Bill from (I think) the 1970s, on the Saturday Night Live television show? Seems like poor Buster is a modern Mr. Bill. Always getting hurt (or maimed or . . .). He shouldn’t have run in the first place; that started the whole ordeal as far as I can see. As a storyline, this is oddly pleasing, Dr. Ali. Talk about feeling conflict(ed)!

    • February 23, 2016 at 8:01 am

I Googled “Mr Bill” – he does sound a lot like Buster! I vaguely remember Friday (later Saturday) Night Live from the late 1980s (stand up comedy) but I think Mr Bill was maybe only in America?
Buster shouldn’t have run, but he’s so used to unfortunate things happening, he wasn’t taking any chances 🙂

    • February 28, 2016 at 4:07 pm

Ha! Now I will always think of Mr. Bill when I kill off Buster. Or at least “Ohhhhh nooooooooo!!!!!”

Definitely; his extended “oh no” came to me even before the image of a little (mangled) red-white-and-blue clay body!

  21. February 23, 2016 at 2:38 am

Hahaha! This is such an amusing tale! I enjoyed every bit of it, no offence Mr. Buster. And your drawing adds the charm! 😀 😀 😀

    • February 23, 2016 at 8:03 am

Buster never takes offence – ES has killed him so many times he’s used to it! I’m just glad that with ES’s competition we all got the chance to kill him too 🙂

      • February 23, 2016 at 1:39 pm

HAHA! Now I feel a whole lot sorry for him! Everyone’s itching to take their shot, huh? 😀

        • February 23, 2016 at 1:51 pm

Yeah, it’s about time the readership of “The Nest” got a go at Buster 🙂

  22. February 25, 2016 at 12:49 am

This is awesome. I laughed out loud. My daughter said, “Those drawings are so awful.” Awfully perfect for the Contest of Whatever. Good job!

    • February 25, 2016 at 8:40 am

I’m going to pretend that I drew them “awful” especially for this contest 🙂 Try as I might, I have absolutely no drawing talent whatsoever. I’d love to be able to draw 🙂
      I’m glad you liked it!

  23. February 25, 2016 at 12:52 pm

    Oh boy!
    Buster indeed must die.

  24. February 26, 2016 at 12:58 am

I loved this and laughed so hard throughout it! You were very imaginative with all the torments Buster had to endure before finally getting to die. I feel like a bore only having him get hit by yet another car. Well done!

    • February 26, 2016 at 7:58 am

I thought we’re not going to get a chance like this again so I’ll throw everything at the poor possum 🙂
I loved yours with the seemingly shy and retiring critter who turns out to be a bit of a psychopath who’ll do anything for the perfect doodle!

Clever as usual. It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone and do something like draw for all to see. Good for you. And you don’t know, you could win. I mean Buster keeps coming back to life. It just proves anything can happen, even the improbable.

    • May 10, 2019 at 6:00 am

Yes, poor Buster. He can’t even find peace in death 😦
Sadly I didn’t win that year, but I’m glad you enjoyed it!
