Sharing My World 2018 Week 27
Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.
Tell us about your first bicycle or car?
My first car was a 1985 light blue Ford Fiesta. That was back in the days when cars rusted so it generally needed a lot of welding. On the plus side, you could do your own maintenance without a diagnostic computer.
What fictional world or place would you like to visit?
Somewhere with magic. I’d like to be able to twiddle my fingers and make stuff happen. Maybe Middle Earth, specifically Hobbiton. That looks like a lovely place to live. I’d be a Gandalf sort of fellow, but without all the Sauron-induced stress.
If you could have someone follow you around all the time, like a personal assistant, what would you have them do?
Since I’m an all-powerful magic user living in Hobbiton I wouldn’t really need a personal assistant. But if I did have one I’d have them do everything ‘cos that’s what I’m paying them for.

It sounds like you’re a “white” wizard, Ali. You’re right. Hobbiton does look like a great place to live. An occasional visit to the elves would also be nice.

I would only use my magical powers for good! It would be cool to be within walking distance of Rivendell.

I dread the day when cars are all computer and no mechanics. The demise of the internal combustion engine might be good for the planet (although all those electric cars do need to be charged) but it is going to be a disaster for the tinkerers and those without a fortune to spend with garage mechanics.
Please note, I will not be applying to be your PA, which you might correctly advertise as ‘slave wanted.’ π

Only the richer garages will be able to survive, too. I bet all that diagnostic equipment costs a fair bit.
Damn, you saw through my advertising spiel to the truth π

My husband is a mechanic for the city, and loves tinkering (we have a house somewhere behind the cars and parts) and would definitely agree with you on the computers. They are a real pain. I once had an Oldsmobile with an electronic dash and once it goofed up and my speedometer just went crazy – on the highway. Never again on the electronic dash, I hope.
I would also like a personal assistant / slave. I could just dangle a ring above Gollum and he’d do whatever I wanted while hissing “My precioussss” and driving annoying people away from me.

Once upon a time even I could so simple stuff like changing the points, distributor cap and so on. Now my engine is just a big enclosed lump of metal…
That’s a good idea – Gollum’s version of a carrot on a stick π
