Sharing My World 30-03-2020

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

Pancakes, waffles or French Toast as your breakfast favourite?
None of those is really eaten for breakfast over here as far as I know. How about a full English breakfast instead?

And no, this is not my usual breakfast. I’d be dead by now.

Do you think a person’s name influences the person they become?
No. If my surname was “Butcher” would I have become a butcher (or a serial killer)? No! For many names it was originally the other way round, I imagine. Jed the village carpenter became Jed Carpenter for short.

Would things get better or worse if humans focused on what was going well rather than what’s going wrong?
Yes.

By which I mean, it’s good to look on the bright side, but if you ignore all the negatives, you’ll go bankrupt. Or potentially catch something nasty and die, especially at the moment.

Is maths something that humans created or something we discovered? Is looking at reality mathematically an accurate representation of how things work?
We invented maths to formalise and understand the world.

Take “zero”. That’s a recent “invention” (around the turn of BCE to CE, then developed in the early centuries of CE). Though the concept of “nothing” was always understood of course, we INVENTED zero in order to express it.

As for the second question, yes, of course. That’s how computers create such realistic images, how they recognise images and so on.

GRATITUDE – What are you grateful for right now?
My cheese arrived! Often at the moment the shops only have processed squares unless you hit it lucky and I’m not eating that shit so I ordered some online. It arrived on Thursday, here it is!

The breakfast looks nothing like a classic American breakfast. But many of the parts look very tasty!! (We don’t have beans for breakfast.) At least I don’t know about them?

It’s not massively common these days as it’s basically an instant heart attack, but tasty for a treat a couple of times a year.

I’m so glad you got your cheese. You must have ordered it from a specialty company. It doesn’t look like something Amazon would deliver. 🙂 — Suzanne

It was the Finest Cheese Co. Expensive but very tasty. I was just ordering some stuff from Amazon Pantry, actually. They have very little in stock 😦

I agree with the name business:Taylor, Carter, Baker, etc. You can imagine how much speculation there’s been about the origin of the name Goodenough (and related spellings.) Unfortunately for one branch of the clan, it morphed into Goodno. 🙂

And numbers. there were two people, one forbidden tree and one snake in the Garden of Eden story. Numbers started right there and have been growing ever since. Glad you got your order. I want to order three books from England, but I don’t know if anyone will be working in the mail-order dept these days. Unlike cheese, books are a non-essential, right?

From what I’ve seen, non-essentials are slower but still come. Everyone is ordering online at the moment. I ordered some sausages and ham yesterday from an online butcher. It’s arriving at the end of the month!

    Yum yum – cheese.
Can I pop round? We could have a cheese and whine party whilst standing in different counties.

We could do it over Skype. I’ll eat all the cheese in front of you and you can whine about it 🙂

True, the full Monty cannot be eaten on a daily basis. And one cannot live without cheese! Did you order Spam as well?

I’ve actually got one emergency tin of Spam at the back of the cupboard. I really need ham to eat with it but that’s not happening (not until the end of the month, anyway) 😦 I’m not going to the supermarket until this is all over.

He had to drive backwards and forwards very fast over all the local speed bumps to properly prepare my order.

Thanks Alistair for Sharing Your World – unique perspective and humor with us!! We can use it at the moment. Now you got some crackers and wine to go with that cheese? If you don’t, invite me over. I’ve got both! I’ll share if you will! *nom nom nom* 😆

Ha, crackers! I wish I did, not much chance of getting hold of those at the moment, sadly. I have some lovely bakery bread, though 🙂

I have never seen baked beans as a breakfast item before, but I’d eat them. Yum!
