Sharing My World 29-05-2023

Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.

If money was no object, what would be your ideal holiday?
Hobbits! Plus everything else New Zealand has to offer. I’d make sure I could pop back and forth whenever I wanted by hiring a team of scientists to solve the issues they’re currently having with quantum entanglement teleportation. After all, money’s no object 🙂

Do you save for a holiday or put it on plastic to pay off later?
I buy almost everything using a credit card, including any holiday. For a start, if anything goes wrong you get a huge amount of protection if you use a card – if the service is not delivered and the company can’t/won’t help, the credit card company will refund you. I’ve got cash to pay the card back straight away if I had to.

Have you ever been on a cruise?
No. I quite fancy it, though. My parents went on a cruise every year for ages and they loved it. A lot of places they visited are now in some way dangerous, occupied or a war zone though 😦

Do you send postcards or buy mementos?
I might buy a trinket or bookmark or something.

I went on a cruise way back in the day with my family. Good memories.

Maybe I’ll give it a go one day. They’re quite expensive, though.

True enough. Money better spent buying Hobbits.

New Zealand is actually one of the few places on earth that does not have water directly on the other side of the globe from it. You only need to travel to Spain and then start digging. Shouldn’t be too costly….

I think the days of luxury cruises are now past. They let all sorts on there now with an average of 3,000 “bloody tourists” on each cruise ship!

Well, that’s no good at all. I just need to win on the Premium Bonds and I’ll have myself a nice private cruise. Actually I did win last week, but I don’t think 50 quid is gonna cut it, cruise-wise.

The Viking River cruises look really nice. Only 190 passengers.

I just had a look, they look nice. I recognised the name and the little boats – I think my parents went on one of those.

I use cards to buy anything that might need adjustment or fail to appear. But locally, around here, a lot of people won’t take cards because they are expensive. So, I have to be very careful when working with local workers because almost none of them will take credit cards.

That’s the case here with local “word of mouth” trades people but all the shops take cards. In fact the rise of “cashless shops” is on the rise in some parts of the country. The girl in front of me in the local shop on Saturday didn’t even have a card, she just waved her phone at the machine.

I don’t trust my phone quite THAT much. The grocery and the lumber yard take cards. So does the hairdresser. But none of the contractors take cards including ones that are well known and trusted — including the guy who repaired our well. He forgot to bill us, too. And the guy who deals with our septic system will take checks (everyone will take checks, actually) and will wait for months to get paid. So it’s not all bad. You can at least negotiate with them, especially if they know you and have worked for you before. Also, my son runs a repair shop in town and EVERYONE knows him. But not taking cards can be very inconvenient when cash is short — though I must say, since I’ve had to pay with cash for most things. Not counting the new windows, new bathroom, new boiler, new gutters all of which had to go through a finance company because they were EXPENSIVE and we had no choice.

Those were larger companies. Small companies and individuals almost never take cards.

What a fantastic idea! Exploring the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand and having the ability to teleport back and forth, all without worrying about money. Sounds like the perfect dream holiday!

Imagine just being able to pop around the world at will. Obviously, despite all the promises regarding flying cars, they’re never going to happen, but I have high hopes for the teleporter.
