Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.
Do you own your own home, rent, or something else?
I have owned my own home since 2014. I wanted to get out of renting, as having to pay rent when I retire will take up most of my monthly money. My mortgage is deliberately organised to be paid off just before state retirement age.
What is your favourite ‘go to’ food when you’re feeling under par?
Hmm. I’m not really sure. Since I started on tablets a couple of years ago for my previously-undiagnosed (very) high blood pressure, I’ve had no more than a hint of a headache. I’ve had no more than a hint of a cold for years and it never changed my eating habits.
It’s more a case of what I eat that makes me feel under par. If I eat half a tub of ice cream on a hot afternoon, I know I’ll be feeling a bit “off” in the evening. If I use a load of hot sauce for tea, I know I’ll likely have a bit of heartburn the next morning. Stuff like that.
Do you indulge in retail therapy?
Occasionally I buy myself something nice but that’s about it. Usually tech-related.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I’m sure there are various old pairs of trainers knocking around, but basically I have three pairs of trainers (a light air sole pair for walking, more rugged ones for general use and old ones for gardening), two pairs of black shoes (for when trainers aren’t appropriate and for special occasions) and a pair of walking shoes (for muddy walks and snow).

Sounds like you have your retirement plan all worked out. Good for you!

Let’s hope so. I didn’t start in on my pension plans nearly early enough, but it’s not something you think of when you’re young!

Thanks for joining in. Sensible about the mortgage. When I was made redundant in 2001, I used my redundancy pay to halve ours. Hubby lost his job a few months later so we took stock and decided to cash in our endowment policy and put our savings with it to pay off the rest. It left us with about £200 in the bank but it was the best thing we ever did. If we had a mortgage or rent to pay, we would have sunk years ago as we just have our pensions coming in but we’re doing OK.

Yes, rent/mortgage is the last thing I want to be paying after finishing working. Especially the way interest rates and hence monthly payments are going 😮

I honestly don’t know how some people are managing the way things are going now. Food is going up every time you walk through a supermarket door and 10p off 4 points of milk in no way offsets rises on everything else on the list.
Have you got a mortgage where you can pay in a lump sum without penalty? We did that and continued to pay the usual monthly amount, but knocked 6 years off our mortgage term. Mind you, that was back in the ’90s and the payment was the proceeds of house sale from my previous relationship.

I could pay off a lump sum (if I saved some money to do so) without penalty. I was extremely lucky though – I locked in a 5 year fixed deal at 1.99% which still has a couple of years to go 🙂

Try putting some hot sauce on half a tub of ice cream and see if both maladies cancel each other out…

Yum, vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a Tabasco topping…

2014 must have been a good year to buy a house; I bought mine as well. I definitely fall into the “too much ice cream” category. 😀

We’re house buddies 🙂 There’s no such thing as “too much” ice cream, I reckon.
