Sharing My World 13-04-2026
Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.
Do you play a musical instrument?
Not really. I had piano lessons as a kid and had a keyboard for a while but I don’t have the room right now. I’m hoping to get a nice new keyboard when I retire, as I can stick it where my work desk is now. I also have a guitar which I’m trying to learn.
Is there an instrument you wish you could play?
The guitar. I’m trying!
Can you read music?
I used to be able to. I guess it will come back to me quite quickly.
Do you have a favourite memory that involves music?
I remember going to see the musical “Blood Brothers” when I was a kid in a theatre either in Inverness or Aberdeen. That was very good.

I had piano lessons as a kid as well. Tried teaching myself the guitar as a teen but I didn’t get very far. 🙂

The furthest I got when I first “taught myself” was a small collection of chords. Three or four chords is still enough to play Status Quo’s entire back catalogue, mind 😉

My teenage son has been trying to teach me how to play the guitar. I can’t seem to get it. People make it look so easy but it’s not. My fingers are either to fat or I just don’t have the patience to learn it haha

It definitely looks easier when other people play it than it actually is.

I too wanted to go back to piano which I played for 5 years when I was in junior high but….So much to do, and so little time.
A friend said, it took her two years to start playing serious stuff, after a 30-year break. So it wouldn’t definitely be easier for us but, regardless, it takes time and serious effort, dedication. Ftr, she’s been playing the piano every single day ever since.

My “plan” is to buy a fairly high end synth or whatever they call them these days once I’ve retired. For a start I only have a small house and I’ll need to ditch my work desk to have the space!

Sounds like a plan.
