Sharing My World 15-06-2026

Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.

When buying a new home appliance, are you offered optional insurance cover (for additional cost) and if so do you take it?
There’s usually some sort of optional insurance. I bought a new cooker once and I could still see the delivery people walking away when the phone rang and it was the company I bought it from offering me “extra cover”.

I never take it. For a start, there’s statutory consumer cover in case something goes wrong within the first few months. Then it’s likely the appliance is covered by your home contents insurance. This extra cover is expensive, too. Often if you work it out, after about three years you’ve actually paid enough to buy the appliance twice!

When purchasing something for the home, like a new TV, freezer, cooker, carpets, etc, do you pay outright or take terms?
That depends what is meant by “pay outright” – I always use a credit card for the Section 75 protection. Then I pay that off over the next couple of months.

What is the worst purchase for the home you can remember?
I can’t remember any really bad purchases. I have probably blocked them out from my memory.

For your family room/lounge, do you prefer couches, easy chairs, recliners or a mixture of seating arrangements.
“Mixture of seating arrangements” implies my room is large enough for more than one seating arrangement šŸ™‚ I have a couch. Upon which I recline šŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing your world again this week.
I agree with you about the optional insurance. It is expensive and if something is going to go wrong, it’s likely to be in the first year when it’s covered by the manufacturers guarantee. After that, it is often cheaper to buy a new appliance anyway!
I can well understand your couch! Hubby slept on one of our settees for over three years due to reflux issues and not being able to lie down or sleep in a bed. We’ve experimented with various things and have now managed to prop up the mattress in the spare room like a hospital bed. The reclining swivel chairs let him nap in the afternoons, so have been a good purchase.
Have a good week. Are you experiencing a heatwave like we are?

We did get a heatwave but at the very edge of the amber zone. I think maybe 28C was the maximum we hit.

We’ve had a couple of days at 30, several around 26 to 28 . Nights are the worst at 26. It’s 24 today so a bit cooler, but not much. Could do with another thunderstorm as we did at 8pm last night. We were lout with the dog and stood in the rain as the thunder rolled in the distance.

I never take extra insurance out either on home appliances. It isn’t worth it!

For sure, bit of a scam really I reckon.

If it encourages comfortable reclining and good writing, who’s to argue with success?

We don’t take extra insurance either, Draliman. When you buy something here, you get two or three years of warranty without theis insurance, many people don’t know about it, and they don’t tell you about itšŸ™ˆExtra PawkissesšŸ¾šŸ˜½šŸ’ž

It’s important to know about your statutory consumer rights šŸ™‚
