Do you prefer bar food, a restaurant, café or tea rooms?
Bar food, I prefer everything casual. Restaurants are okay as long as they’re not too posh, like pizza places or Indian restaurants,

Do you always have the same thing, or try something different from time to time?
I usually have the same thing. I don’t go out very often, and it would be a shame to waste my trip having something yukky.

Have you ever had to send something back to the kitchen because it was sub standard?
No. I pretty much eat what I’m given. I don’t recall ever receiving anything that was worth complaining about anyway.

If you have a complaint, do you make it in writing after you have left, or before you settle your bill?
I’ve never had a complaint, I’m not sure what I’d do. But if I didn’t complain when I was there I probably wouldn’t bother, I just wouldn’t go back.

Would you like to relive parts of your childhood?
Some parts were good. I remember a lot of bike riding around the place, and to visit friends. I couple of school trips to outside places stand out in my mind.

But, on the whole, I wouldn’t go through childhood again for anything.

Did you believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy?
Very probably, though I don’t remember “actively” believing. It was a long time ago though.

I was just happy for the presents, the chocolate eggs and the money under the pillow, basically. I’m a believer!

Was there a childhood habit you never grew out of?
I really don’t know.

Were you part of a large family or an only child?
There was me and my brother (plus parents), the “standard” family size.

What is your favourite animated movie?
I don’t watch that many. “Zootopia” is the only animated film I’ve deliberately watched more than once.

Who is your favourite cartoon character?
I don’t know that I have a favourite. Many characters from the Simpsons, Pam from “Archer” maybe.

Who is your favourite actor and actress?
I don’t know that I have favourites. There are a few names which make me think “this is probably worth watching as such-and-such is in it”.

Do you think today’s movies give value for money?
Well they’re certainly getting longer in general. Which, funnily enough, makes me less willing to pay to see them in the cinema. I can’t sit there for three hours. It’s not like “ye olden days” where you had to wait 5 years before you could watch a film outside of the cinema.

Do you have any fruit trees in your garden?
Not in my garden. The house next door has a huge apple tree, which they had to get permission to cut back last year. I remember the letter I got asking if I had any objections (I’m in a tree preservation area).

If not, do you have any trees at all?
I have sort of tree/bushes. Not trees in the sense of trees you see in the woods, but too big to be bushes, I would say.

Have you ever made your own beer or wine?
No. My dad made his own wine way back when, though.

Which is your preference: fruit pie (tart), lemon meringue, key lime pie, other.
I prefer pies/tarts featuring berries. Blackberry is a favourite of mine. Actually, a nice blackberry and rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream is very nice 🙂

What kind of challenges in WordPress do you prefer?
Well, this one, obviously 🙂 I also did Friday Fictioneers for many years and also another now-defunct writing challenge. So stuff like that.

If you were to host a challenge, what would it be?
The “who can send me the most money in the shortest period of time” challenge. I’ll get right on that.

Do you miss the ‘Awards’ posts that were very popular years ago?
No! Such implied pressure to do the post and then annoy someone else by nominating them next.

Do you think they were a good way to grow your blog followers and get you recognised?
To a certain extent, but I think challenges are better for that.

Are you prepared for a power cut?
I have torches. And a big battery power unit which will charge stuff, power the internet router and stuff like that. Not sure how much more I can do. Generally power cuts last between a second or two and a couple of hours here, maybe once a year.

Do you prefer candles or torches when there is no electricity?
Torches. It’s easy to knock things over in the dark, I’d prefer that thing not to be a candle.

Do you use scented candles or wax melts?
No, I’m not a big fan of chemical smells. I’m not even sure what a “wax melt” is. Presumably like a cheese melt but not so edible.

Do you find a meal by candlelight romantic?
Not the way I eat.

Half the year is now over. Have you had any memorable highlights in the past six months?
My Scotland holiday in mid-June.

What are you looking forward to in the coming six months?
Nothing 😦

How do you keep cool on a hot day?
Fewer clothes and cold drinks. Close the curtains on the sunny side of the house and open windows when it cools down outside.

Have you ever danced in the rain?
Not that I recall. I usually run for cover.

When you go on vacation, do you like to sample the local cuisine, check out the sights, or laze on the beach?
I would be out seeing the sights.

Have you ever been away on a vacation with friends rather than family?
Sort of. A bunch of us went to Germany for a friend’s wedding once a long time ago.

Would you prefer a cruise or coach tour holiday?
The cruise I think as you’re not stuck in a seat for ages. But one one of the smaller ships.

Self catering, or full board where all meals are included/provided.
Given those choices, self-catering. But I prefer what I did on my Scotland holiday – fairly decent hotel room, no meals at all. That way I can decide day to day where and what I want to eat depending on where I am and what I’m doing.

Were you born at home, in a hospital, or somewhere else?
I was born in the local hospital.

How many siblings do you have or are you an only child?
I have one brother, 18 months younger than me.

Have you ever owned a pet that has had a litter? (cats, dogs, guinea pigs, mice etc)
Nope.

How many living generations are there in your family?
Just two – me and my brother and my Mum.

I was away last week in Scotland and missed last week’s Share Your World.

Here is my post for Share My World, hosted by Di. Sorry I didn’t post last week, I was woken by a phone call at 0630 and spent the day with Mum. She was okay by the afternoon, some sort of bug, but I didn’t get a chance to post anything.

Can you speak a second language?
That depends on what’s meant by “speak”. I can speak a few words of “schoolboy” French and enough German to have a basic conversation, but I think “speak” is probably going a bit far to claim.

As a child, what did you find easier, climbing a rope or climbing a tree?
I don’t remember climbing many trees but I remember distinctly that I could barely get off the ground in PE class trying to climb a rope. So I’m going with “tree”.

Did you prefer maths or science at school?
That depends on what maths and what science. If the science is Physics, then that for sure. I wasn’t great at Chemistry or Biology. As for maths, well… stuff like algebra I found easy whereas stuff like statistics and geometry – no!

How would you describe your sense of humour?
That’s best left to others to determine. “Dry”, maybe.
