5 Day Challenge – DraliTips for Your Bathroom

Here I am with Day 2 of the Five Day challenge. Gill at In Touch With Emma nominated me, and the rules are:

“Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph (and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge – I’m not doing that bit).”

I’m also posting this in response to Marilyn’s challenge over at Serendipity, which is weekly and is also to post a story, or some words, accompanying a photo.

Today, DraliTips is proud to present some help on cleaning your bathroom. I have managed to take a fairly neutral picture of my bathroom, and it has just been cleaned after all!

  1. First, and most important, don’t leave it for months between cleans. It’s amazing how long it takes if you do that! Clean that sucker even when you don’t have your parents visiting.
  2. Once your shower curtain has achieved more than 50% mould cover, replace it. See my lovely new shower curtain? Nice.
  3. That hard-to-reach black mould above the shower? Leave it alone. You’ll only hurt yourself trying to reach it, and it’s perfectly harmless(a)!
  4. Before you start, be sure to don the appropriate protective gear. Gloves, goggles and an apron are a must. Some form of breathing apparatus is also recommended.
  5. Though it is tempting, do not use your toothbrush to clean the grouting between the tiles. It will make it taste funny! Use someone else’s instead.
  6. Above all, have fun! Remember, look after your bathroom and it will look after you.

(a) May not be perfectly harmless.

I am forwarding this to my husband.

I change my shower curtain when it is less then 1/3 covered with mould. And I got this great spray stuff that kills mould on contact. You can spray from several feet away (the hard part is keeping it from dripping into your eyes) which is good because I’m so short. Works on grout, too.

I have to mention if you have one of those rubber safety thingies on the floor of the bathtub, remember to clean under it. Otherwise, things will grow there that will make you want to abandon your home and start over with fresh real estate! Thank you for playing and may your bathroom continue to care for you through the years.

I don’t have a rubber safety thingy but I nearly slipped a couple of days ago, so possibly I should get one.
I have a pretty good spray but you have to rub at the mould as well which in this case would probably involve a ladder and some creative positioning. I figure maybe one day I’ll paint over it 🙂
I’ll definitely change my shower curtain earlier next time. It’s amazing how much better the bathroom looks! Plus my parents are coming over tomorrow and I’d have been in trouble!

Bet it smells better, too. The spray stuff is probably lethal because you are supposed to spray, then leave the bathroom for ten minutes, the come back and EVERYTHING rinses right off. It has changed my world view and I think this is the first time ever my bathroom has no mold hiding somewhere. Just — uh — don’t breathe it. My friend tells me it’s mostly pure bleach. With some other strange, unpronounceable ingredients.

You should get something to avoid falling. Over the years, the most painful falls have been in the bathroom. The tub is very unforgiving.

That certainly sounds more powerful than the stuff I use, and more efficacious!
My worry about falling is why I haven’t ventured up that high. Especially since I live alone.

Smart. Because it can be a long crawl to the telephone. You might want to rethink the whole “footing” issue.

And possibly put down some nice soft duvets and whatnot.
When I go up in the loft these days I always make sure I have my phone in my pocket. I never used to be this careful.

One bad fall can change your life. I fell off a horse at 17. I couldn’t imagine anything permanently hurting me. But it did. That was when nobody thought sports could be dangerous to kids.

I remember you posting about that. I think I’ll leave the mould alone for now.

I do have a lot going on at the moment!
The bathroom was that colour when I moved in but I think blues and greens are great bathroom colours so I left it alone 🙂

Wait a minute? You mean I’m supposed to actually clean…… in there!?!?!? Can’t I just set off a bomb after a year or so and start fresh?

A bomb works too! Unless your mortgage company objects. Mine did 😦
