FF – The Worst Idea Ever

Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo comes courtesy of J Hardy Carroll.

I had problems thinking of a story for this one, so I’ve gone full silly. I apologise in advance, I’m not in the mood for writing thoughtful or sombre this evening :-).

Reversible Church, what an efficient idea?! 😀

  2. May 18, 2016 at 8:06 pm

Ha.. this reminds me of a sign my father once saw in a small village where options for work was few.

    + Bridal gowns
    + Shrouds
    + Cookies

    You have to diversify sometimes.

    • May 19, 2016 at 6:52 am

Ha ha! I love seeing signs etc which seem to be advertising lots of random or disconnected things. Last week on “Sunday Politics” one of the guests was described as writing on “Politics, feminism and video games” – made me smile!

  3. May 18, 2016 at 8:07 pm

    Oh dear!
Draliman! Where your imagination takes you is priceless.

  4. May 18, 2016 at 8:19 pm

Garry did a fake TV ad very much like this maybe … 30 years ago? I think this is an idea whose time has come. Hilarious.

    • May 19, 2016 at 6:54 am

I love fake ads which poke fun. I’m glad you liked it, and thanks for the reblog 🙂

  5. May 18, 2016 at 8:57 pm

Matched and dispatched simultaneously. Very clever!

    Great stuff 🙂

I imagine all these brides and grooms who quickly ‘accelerate’ an elderly relative’s demise to get the discount. What a hoot. And I want a mouse pad. 😀

    • May 19, 2016 at 6:56 am

Ha, yes. An unexpected side effect! I’ll check the stock room, I think we have some mouse pads left 🙂

    this is hysterical.

  14. May 19, 2016 at 5:29 am

Ok. I need to talk to the mind behind this advertisement because it brilliant! Hahaha! Straight to the point and definitely alluring. XD Not that I would want a funeral at my wedding. Lol!

    • May 19, 2016 at 6:59 am

Thanks! This idea isn’t for everyone, but I’m sure there are those out there willing to take the chance to save a few bucks 🙂
      I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  15. May 19, 2016 at 5:31 am

    HAHAHAHAHAHA! Brilliant!

I think there should have been a Sav-O-Matic Drive-Through Altar Call, too.

Five out of five best mans (men?)

    • May 19, 2016 at 7:00 am

That’s a great idea, and would streamline the process even further!
I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

  16. May 19, 2016 at 6:57 am

That isn’t in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. is it. I think they have a drive through church there already. It had to happen sooner or later. Hilarious, Ali. You’re at your best when you’re being silly. 😀 — Suzanne

    • May 19, 2016 at 7:04 am

That’s probably the best place for this church, it probably wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

  17. May 19, 2016 at 7:27 am

    You do silly so well!

Hahaha.. keep the flyer.. you never know when someone will die and then .. have a wedding at the same time at half price.

    • May 19, 2016 at 8:53 am

It can join all the other flyers in my kitchen drawer! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

    Dear Ali,

How about a drive-through window for short services? Again, you’re warped and I love it.

    • May 19, 2016 at 3:14 pm

      Dear Rochelle,
Anything to speed things up and get customers through the doors will go down well with this crowd, I reckon!
I’m glad you liked it, I was hesitant about publishing as it’s so crazy but it seems to have gone down okay with the FF crowd 🙂

  21. May 19, 2016 at 10:13 am

    Ha ha ha. Awesome!
    I am a Pastor too!
    Greatly appreciate this!
    Clap clap clap….

    • May 19, 2016 at 3:15 pm

Cool, can I interest you in a slot in the Reversible Church? 🙂
      I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  22. May 19, 2016 at 1:20 pm

I love this, though I can’t see them getting rid of those 100 free mouse mats too quickly. Still, you never know – weddings and funerals can be expensive so the unscrupulous might not be above taking certain steps to ensure the dates coincide ….

    • May 19, 2016 at 3:16 pm

I have visions of them sitting in their empty church looking all sad with a pile of mouse mats next to them 🙂
I’m sure there are those whose relatives “coincidentally” require a funeral at the same time as some other service…

  23. May 19, 2016 at 3:21 pm

    Very amusing, Ali!

    Hahaha! Very creative!

  27. May 20, 2016 at 2:31 am

ha ha. That’s a very ingenious idea and story. The flyer format with all the fine print worked very well. Well done!

    • May 20, 2016 at 7:19 am

I’m glad you liked it! No special offer is complete without a ton of small print 🙂

  28. May 20, 2016 at 4:23 am

My grandmother’s funeral and oldest sister’s wedding were held one day apart… where was this great offer when we needed it 20 years ago!?!?

    • May 20, 2016 at 7:21 am

20 years ago the world wasn’t ready for such a revolutionary service!

  29. May 20, 2016 at 5:51 am

    I want some of whatever you’re on… 🙂

I’m glad! It was pretty crazy weird, wasn’t it 🙂

  31. May 20, 2016 at 6:32 pm

Excellent! Five stars from me. What a great concept and you executed it perfectly!

    • May 20, 2016 at 8:42 pm

Thanks! The picture looked so much like a church except for the facing seats, which gave me the idea. I’m glad you liked it!

    oh! 😀 😀

Ha, hilarious! With the tight scheduling, I’m surprised this hasn’t been adopted. When my dad passed, we had to postpone the funeral for quite a while because they were booked! Weird, I thought I would never have to deal with that one. With this, those at the funeral could feel better watching someone get married. And don’t forget baptisms!

    • May 21, 2016 at 3:30 pm

On the other hand, people at the wedding might get on a bit of a downer having people crying at the funeral. And possibly a bad omen like at the beginning of the Rocky Horror Show!
That must have been quite a lot of added stress, having to postpone the funeral.

  35. May 21, 2016 at 5:02 am

    count me in. 🙂

  36. May 21, 2016 at 8:00 pm

Very clever! LOL’s Anything is possible…just advertise and there will be people responding! Enjoyed the humor.

    • May 22, 2016 at 5:23 am

Yes, no matter how mad the idea I’m sure there will be people knocking at the door soon enough! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

  37. May 22, 2016 at 11:22 am

Grieving brides…threw that one in there, didn’t ya? Lol I love it when you go full silly.

  38. May 22, 2016 at 3:53 pm

Hilarious!!!! Having to face each other in a real church service would do ‘a few’ people some good! May I be forgiven for those cruel thoughts! Loved the ‘grieving brides’ reference!

    • May 22, 2016 at 5:19 pm

I like putting completely opposite things together, so “grieving wives” sounded funny 🙂

I’ll add my accolades to everyone else’s. You do really well when you’re stumped for an idea about a prompt. I’m still chuckling.

I’m glad you liked it! Sometimes the craziest ideas are the funniest 🙂
