Limerick Challenge – Poor Dwight
Here is a limerick I wrote for Mind and Life Matters’ limerick challenge! The prompt word for this week is “colour” (well, “color” actually).
I’ve pushed it a bit this time. I had to use “coder” because “programmer” has too many syllables (still a valid word but less frequently used perhaps) and I’ve assumed that a self-aware robot might reasonably regard said coder to be their mother. Ahem :-).
Click on the blue froggy to see this week’s other limericks!
There once was a robot called Dwight
Who saw life in stark black and white
When a coder, his “mother”
Switched his firmware to colour
His diodes blew up from the fright!

Cute! And, yes, poor robot. I’m also glad you didn’t put coder at the end and take a predictable route of coder-odor. Or, I guess you could have thrown GoT in there . . . coder-Hodor for a near-rime. (Which now makes me sad, considering . . .sorry.)

Coder-odour sounds nasty 🙂
I’ve heard rumours of Hodor but I don’t have Sky so I have to wait until I can buy the latest series off Amazon Streaming 😦

Sounds like a plan to get the series. Or get a ba-na-na pI set up (you’re technically proficient, so wouldn’t be a problem for you)? I hyphenated deliberately there.

I Googled that and think I found the right thing! GoT is still only available in the UK via Sky though, which is expensive on top of my Netflix and Amazon subscriptions and requires a satellite dish 😦

Aha! I see. Very interesting how that works.

LOL poor Dwight; his Mummy should have gradually introduced the colour instead of all in one hit. Your limerick has a delightful cadence 🙂

Yeah, she should have turned it up a shade at a time. Poor Dwight.

That was hilarious, Ali, although I did feel sorry for poor Dwight. Well done. 😀 — Suzanne

At least he got to see a world of colour before he blew to bits 🙂

Extremely witty, amusing and VERY clever! Have you read Les Mis? I immediately thought of the police officer whose worldview is challenged and he leaps to his death. Having a pre existing paradigm challenged can be catastrophic. Even in robots apparently. I agree with Lyn. Thanks for the clever laffs:-D

No, I haven’t read Les Mis. It’s hard for many people (and robots) to cope when their entire world view is shattered/altered. It reminded me of a Red Dwarf episode (“The Last Day”) where an android shuts down when he’s told there is no Silicon Heaven (“No Silicon Heaven? Then where do all the calculators go?”)
I’m glad you enjoyed my little limerick!

Poor Dwight! Although mommy did that with good intention, Coder should’ve taken it slow! Being an IT Analyst, I can relate to why Dwight blew up! 😀 😀

Yes, she should have introduced his new colour-capabilities one bit at a time 🙂
We’re in similar professions by the sound of it! And thanks for choosing my limerick for shared second place 🙂

Nice twist calling the coder his “mother”.

I’ve seen similar in various sci-fi stuff, and I needed the rhyme 🙂 It freaks me out a bit, actually!

Such a sad end for Dwight, He sounded like a nice, friendly kind of robot. But what kind of ‘mother’ did the poor guy have to cause her own ‘son’ to blow up? Ha! You’re really good at writing Limericks! 🙂
