Last Week’s Snow
Here are some pictures I took last Sunday. It is very rare here to get snowflakes large enough to show up on camera.
I messed about with the first one in Lightroom. I don’t know what I’m doing but it’s fun pushing the sliders around to see what will happen 🙂
I shrank them all a bit to make the file size smaller.

No processing

Lightroomed!
Great shots. I need to look into getting Lightroom.

I finally bought the disc version (not the subscription). It’s quite powerful if you know what you’re doing, apparently! And only about £100, so nothing like full Photoshop or anything.

That’s a lot of snow on the trees, Ali.

Yep. Weirdly not so much on the roads, though (hooray!).

We usually get a snow like that where I live a couple times a winter… but this is our second straight year that was largely snowless. After all those years of wishing the snow would go somewhere else, I guess it finally did! Congratulations, and enjoy your gift!

Gee, thanks.
It’s good for photos, not so good for going to work…

That was quite a snowfall for your location, Ali. The process you used was interesting. Good job. 🙂 — Suzanne

Thanks! I don’t know that it’s better, just different, but it was fun bringing up the green and so on.
A long time since we saw flakes like that.

Pretty! Makes me miss living in the northern states. A little. It’s so lovely to look at, from inside a cozy house with a fire and hot cocoa… Then I remember how snow interacts poorly with “Having to Get Somewhere” and I don’t miss it as much. 🙂

It was nice because it was a Sunday. For work the next day, there wasn’t too much on the roads and I made it up the hill without issue, fortunately.

Snow is especially lovely on Sundays. Not so lovely on Mondays — so I’m glad for you that the timing worked out well!

You did indeed have a lot of snow. Love what you did with that lightroom – it’s all a bit clearer and sharper and slightly unworldly at the same time.

Thanks, I put some sort of “encroaching blackness” around it. I can’t remember what I did to get that, it was some sort of slider somewhere 🙂

The pictures are fabulous, Draliman and we like the effect of the Lightroom. It deepened the colours. Pawkisses for a Sunny Day 🙂 ❤

It looks so pretty! Is Lightroom easy to use? I tried a trial of Photoshop but didn’t do a thing with it because it was so overwhelming.

Lightroom is more geared towards photo processing rather than manipulating images. The basics are quite easy as when you open it you get quick tools for various supplied filters, white balance, colour manipulation (eg bring up green, less blue etc) and so on. So there’s quite a lot you can do right off the cuff, which is as far as I have taken it! The catalogue system is a bit confusing so I just do one photo at a time and then delete it from the “catalogue”. I think if you’re really into it you can build up a catalogue of your photos and the various things you’ve done to them.
As an example, I took a bunch of photos a year ago where the white balance was waaaay off (the sun was too bright). It took one little slider in Lightroom to make one of those photos look great and natural.
I bought the one-off copy on CD/DVD from Amazon for about £100, so no subscription charges or anything.
