FF – Letter to the People
Here is my story (sort of) for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week she also provided the photo!

Conveniently-situated underneath a main thoroughfare, this open-plan property has to be seen to be believed. Well-lit via a panoramic frontage, this airy once-in-a-lifetime find also features a novel indoor rockery and paddling pool.
This property is available now, to anyone, free of charge. Please supply your own sleeping bag.
We’d love to offer you a warm comfortable council-run house, but we sold them all to the private sector years ago. Sorry about that. And we blew the rest of the money. We’re not sure where. Not on healthcare, anyway! Pass the hors d’oeuvres, someone.
Yours Insincerely,
Every Government Everywhere
This story is unacceptable. It has to be fiction!

It is of course fiction! Such a travesty could never happen.

now that it has been revealed, i bet there’ll be a lot of takers making the place uninhabitable. it should have been kept a secret for the privileged few.

Clever story, but sad that it’s a true reflection of the way things are. Nicely done.

Thanks! I didn’t want to be too melodramatic and finally decided on a “letter” to put it across 🙂

Very cleverly written with a deeply sad underlying truth. I’ve read it a couple of times. Well-done!

This is so clever!! Such a tongue-in-cheek way to illustrate the reality we live in, unfortunately.

So realistic Ali, unless someone cares enough to give the homeless a voice.

I can’t help thinking someone had too much to drink at the office party and accidentally clicked “send”…

It really doesn’t look half bad. And I’d assume I wouldn’t have to pay any taxes on it?
LikeLike
Obviously there’ll be taxes, this space has been specially provisioned for such use thus incurring inevitable administrative charges blah blah wages to pay blah blah…

Dear Ali,
The stories are supposed to be fiction. 😉 As always, good one.

Haha! That was great parody of a real estate ad! Funny, I just happened to be reading some blogposts on city planning and the history of apartment-block styles. They didn’t mention this latest evolution! 😊

Brilliant bit of social commentary. I’d love to see the fat cat Councillors sleeping rough. Nicely done.

I’ll take it. The potential is endless, just imagine the market stalls selling the collectables thrown over the bridge, the midnight camp fire and skinny dipping, what a hoot. I am surprised the council have not sold this on a a possible gentrification spot – all these pop up gin distilleries must be envious of my basic pad. Oh yea.

It could be a thriving community in no time. The council certainly missed a trick there…

Well the pension pots had to be topped up somehow, you can’t get blood out of a stone. That’s my theory anyway. Lovely satire, you totally got the nonsense written in those descriptions.

Employers have to stock the pension pot so they can “dip into it” later. I’m glad you liked it!

I never even noticed the neatly arranged rocks when I first saw the prompt, funny how reading other stories helps you see different things. Makes me realise how unobservant I really am! I reckon that if they had the cheek to advertise this spot it wouldn’t be for free though.

I often miss something that everybody else is writing about.
I expect there would be a “small administrative charge” involved at the very least.
