Sharing My World 24-02-2019
Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
Not have to sleep? But sleeping’s one of my favourite things. If I didn’t have to sleep I’d spend the extra time researching a cure for fellow sufferers of “sleep immunity syndrome”.
What job would you be terrible at?
Nearly everything! Especially stuff where I’d have to deal with people. Or any sort of manual labour as I’m not really string enough to lift stuff around.
When was the last time you climbed a tree?
Too long ago to remember. I have a vague memory that I might have climbed a tree once.
Do you count your steps?
No. The totals wouldn’t make for very good reading, to be honest. I would say “I need to get more exercise” but that would imply I already get some…
What’s the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself?
Many years ago after watching The Pogues in concert near Stuttgart, I exited the building (quite drunk) and stepped off the edge of the steps. I fell straight forwards onto my face – no attempt at all to save myself (and therefore no broken wrists). My glasses got a bit bent and I got a scrape on my face, but it was more embarrassing than anything 🙂

I’ve fallen on my face a couple of times but I wasn’t drunk. I just have a balance problem. I finally started to catch on when I swayed to one side standing perfectly still. I had lots of ear problems as a child. I knew that would probably cost me and it has. 😦 — Suzanne

I had an ear infection once. I couldn’t even walk in a straight line.

Maybe that’s why my coordination wasn’t up to par. It didn’t help that I slipped on a rubber mat in Phys. ed. once and struck the side of my head. It was in the 50s. The teacher said, “Are you alright and did nothing else about it. I probably had a concussion as I had seen stars. Ah, the good old days. 😦 — Suzanne

I am glad someone else had no memory of climbing a tree. I’m not sure why I never climbed a tree??? There were just other things to do. I guess there was just never anything up-a-tree I wanted?

At least it means you could never fall out of a tree.

HAHAHA! Sleep immunity syndrome! I liked climbing trees. I wish I had a big tree in my back garden.

I’ve nearly been hit by cars several times. But nothing ever happened sitting in a tree 🙂

That is why you should count your steps. Less chance you’ll miss one, faceplant, and end up as a viral video…

Thankfully all this went down many years pre-camera phone…

At least you didn’t break your glasses, doing the classic face plant. Ow. My sympathies!! Once, crossing an icy road (lots of traffic of course), I slipped and fell on my posterior, had on really stupid shoes given the conditions…those old wooden wedgies that were popular in the 1980s. I couldn’t get back up either, they just slide around and around, finally some fellow got out of his car and helped me to my feet. I threw those damned shoes in the trash when I got home too. It can be embarrassing to fall down, especially if there are witnesses. It sounds like you were spared that at least. Thanks for Sharing Your somewhat embarrassing World with us…

Ha, there were plenty of witnesses! Last time I slipped in the snow it went unnoticed though, fortunately.

Gee. When I was thinking of ALL the ways I’ve injured myself stupidly, I left out falling on my face for no particular reason. The thing is, as you get older, falling is a “thing” and everyone rushes to help you which makes an embarrassing moment TEN times MORE embarrassing.

How did you manage not to break your nose? Did you land on an ear?

I think I landed flat on my face. I was pretty drunk though so I might not have 🙂
