Sharing My World 11-11-2019
Here’s my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.
Is copying and pasting images or information off the Internet plagiarism? Do you credit those whose work you ‘borrow freely’ or do you think the idea is repugnant?
If you credit the work you’ve taken, it’s just theft rather than plagiarism (which involves passing the work off as your own). I only grab stuff off the internet when I’m pretty sure it’s very general. There are exceptions in (UK) copyright law (teaching, parody, review, quotation etc) which would cover a good deal of stuff.
I think it’s pretty low if you actually pretend something’s your own work, but I think the word “repugnant” is going a bit far!
Do you let sleeping dogs lie?
I certainly don’t. Lying is wrong, even if you’re asleep. And a dog. Tell the truth, people 🙂
What’s the strangest pet name (for adults) that you’ve ever heard someone called?
Nope, I’ve only ever heard the standards.
Do you like to dance? If yes, what’s your favourite and if no, why not?
Not at all, in any way or at any time whatsoever. And I’m sure the people around me would also rather I didn’t dance.

I don’t know, I kinda like the way repugnant sounds…
Beware the Repugnant Evil Squirrel! He will steal your internets!
Yes, I like that title a lot…

1- It is entirely unacceptable, abhorrent, distasteful, repulsive and disgusting to steal the work of others and pass it off as their own. (credit: synonyms found on google). Seriously, it’s a big problem with artwork.
2-hahaha! I’ve never heard a dog lie.
3-We need a video of you dancing! 😀

1 – Yep. Nicely credited!
2 – Hope you never do 🙂
3 – Good luck finding that 😉

Thanks Alistair for Sharing Your World!! I’d like to see that video, if you make it. I’m with Magickmer on that one! As to ‘repugnant”…perhaps that was a bit harsh, but it’s how I find plagiarism. Really, really repulsive. However a healthy dose of common sense ought to be used when jumping on someone who may have ‘stolen’ words or images. The context is uber important. Thanks for reminding me not to be so judgmental too. 😀

It’s the “passing it off as your own” which is really unforgivable…

OH! I failed to add my dogs never lie. And they’re right crabby about that too…

That’s because you never let them lie as puppies 🙂

Why can’t those sleeping dogs be honest for once? 😁

They’re okay when they’re awake, but right dishonest so-and-so’s when they’re asleep 🙂

I think your dancing is right up there with my singing. I only sing happy birthday—with good reason.
