Sharing My World 13-01-2020

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

What’s something your brain tries to make you do, which you have to will yourself NOT to do? (could be a bad habit, a physical response to something…your interpretation is as good as mine!)
Much as I hate going the same way as many others, eating! Specifically chocolate. I still have a big bar of chocolate from Christmas I’m a bit scared to open, as technically it should be eaten over an entire week but I might not be able to stop myself eating it all in one go. It my absolute favourite, too.

Here’s the chocolate bar in question.

I love how it says “More to Share”. Like, get your own chocolate bar. This is my chocolate bar. You can’t have any.

When someone finds out what you do, or where you are from, what question do they always ask you?
They don’t. Their eyes just glaze over as all interest fades. IT does that to people. Either that or they describe some problem they have with their computer and ask me to fix it. Yeah, sure mate. £20 per hour.

What’s something terrifying that we’ve all come to accept as a fact of life?
This is not exactly terrifying, but…

I was walking into town yesterday around 0845 and I walked down a street with a lot of jewellers. Their windows were full of people putting out the displays – rings, necklaces and the like. And it was all totally normal.

Then I thought, why? The only reason they have to remove the displays overnight is because of the risk of theft. We buy insurance which covers theft. We lock our houses, cars, bikes. We buy security cameras and alarms. We password protect everything. It costs us a fortune. All because of the risk some bastard who’s too lazy to get a job is going to help themselves to our stuff. And we accept it as normal.

Should governments make laws to protect people from harming themselves? Could that even work?
In general, no. Not once they’re adults. And it doesn’t always work. If someone really wants to do something they’ll find a way. One big exception that really did work was making it law to wear a seat belt in a car. Saved a lot of lives, that did. Also spared a lot of emergency workers the trauma of having to scrape splattered body parts up off the pavement.

Tiny poll: I’m curious what type of questions YOU, the reader, would like to see more of? Less of? Has SYW gotten too philosophical and less fun in nature?
I’m happy with the questions 🙂

Yeah. As the wise have been known to say… “Never a borrower nor a lender be. Oh, and chocolate’s not for sharing.”

As a young man (ah those were the days!) I seriously considered a life of crime. I joined the army instead so I could kill people!

I like life questions… my grandfather always used to say… always ask questions, one who never asks either knows everything or knows nothing (lol)

I get asked weird questions all the time… my family is from the east coast, and I have the most influence from New England area … but I have lived all over the United States growing up – so my accent is a mixture of a ton of areas and states – its unique and people always ask me where my accent is from… I always say I dunno pick a state lol

I get asked what color my eyes are when they are right in front of me lol… umm ?? What color do you want them to be? Lol … my eyes are blue and green… if I wear blue they are blue… if I wear green they are green… In the summer they are lighter and brighter and in winter they are darker… they are weird!! So I never know how to answer that.

I also get asked … do I have tattoos? 🤨 … I always have fun with my answers … no I do not have tattoos, instead I have freckles which are like connect the dots – draw, erase, repeat – if I want to lol …

On a funny note with that tattoo question… I had a mastectomy with reconstruction due to cancer… so I only was able to save one nipple… and it’s not perfect… my surgeon was like “ok so time to start thinking about tattoos and stuff” 😳😄… as in tattoo’ing nipples to make me look “normal” 🤨

First of all… I love my uniqueness and I think is beautiful as is… I don’t walk around topless 🤨 who’s gonna see?

And I would not like the tattoo question if I got tattoo’ed nipples lol… how’s that gonna go?

    Do you have tattoos?

    Why yes I do

    Of what and where? 🤨

I am NOT saying of nipples on my breasts!!! 🤨 although I love baseball and they had a nipple tattoo of the Boston Red Sox emblem… for a quick second I was like 🤔 lol … but no. It’s amazing what they can do for you.

I do love questions and learning from questioning and reading or thinking about others questions no matter what the subject or curiosity… it all makes you think or understand or see from a different perspective or learn something – Even questions that are philosophical… or informational are good. Makes you learn … so keep asking – learn from or enjoy the answers. ✌️

And ps.. just open it lol… otherwise you will still have next Christmas lol … it’s ok I am the same way… enjoy your life… my favorites are Cadbury and these little Lindt truffle balls Oh my god! Yum!!! Just gimme the whole package

There was a moment not too long ago – I was really stressed … so what did I do? I went to the store and bought a bag of the Lindt Balls … emptied my purse … and filled it with those balls … the next day I had to go through something REALLY stressful… every once in awhile during that day… I popped one of those in my mouth… mmmmm chocolate lol … but those are so creamy and delicious … I dunno it just soothed me at those moments so ya know? Whatever works – got me through the day …

But I will say I might have overloaded cause after that … I was like ughh no more chocolate!! Lol … I felt sick lol – maybe not just eat ONLY chocolate all day lol

I still love them and still love chocolate. So whatever.

But yes ask questions always – any kind ✌️

Nobody really asks me many questions but I don’t meet many new people.
You’re right about the chocolate. It’ll be Easter soon, gotta get the Christmas chocolate out of the way!

Thanks Alistair for Sharing Your World! That chocolate bar looks amazing. I’d hide it if I were you, because there are people who are reading your post who are drooling on their keyboards and plotting to find you and steal it away….;) I really liked your “terrifying” question. When did that become a thing? I’m showing my age a bit, but I don’t recall such a need for security, security and more security in my youth. Sure, it paid to be prudent about safety and such, but really? Used to be that things were simpler, maybe that’s the reason for all the theft and crime and crap now. 😐 IT? I find that field fascinating and would have LOVED to have had a job in it, but alas I was born too early and in the day (my day) girls didn’t get into computers. Especially not fixing them or maintaining them. Even though that’s a hat I wore in my personal, at-home life. My hubby was useless at computer ‘stuff’. I grew up with them (the development of the personal computer any way), and so I learned a lot of tricks and such to keep the machine humming along. It’s a very interesting field, you ask me!

I had one of the first home computers – 1kB of RAM and no hard disk – and was hooked ever since then!
I’m pretty sure just a few short decades ago people didn’t even have to lock their doors. Just a few months ago one of those very jewellery shops was the target of a daytime robbery attempt by a gang on mopeds. However, it didn’t go too well as a bunch of shoppers who were walking past at the time “took them out” heh heh.

I agree; no one gets any of my chocolate! I was thinking about all the security and other safety issues we have now. Just what the world needs; more anxiety!

All interesting replies as usual! I might share a chocolate bar with DH, but usually it’s “to each his own.” Don’t worry about folks over here coming to get your bar; the plane fare alone would buy us at least 800 bars.

As to safety things, another law that succeeded here was helmets for motorcyclists. It’s iffy; bikers can break their necks even if they don’t smash their skulls. Actually some Drs say that motor bike accidents are a prime source of organs for transplants, but helmets may save some lives.

I’m with you on the terrifying part. Some folks think that because they have less money than “those rich snobs” they have a right to Robin-Hood the well-to-do and businesses. It’s sad that stores have to be guarded within and without — and we all pay. One US teacher talked with his poorer teen students one day and they were complaining about how well guarded the electronics are. They had to steal food and save their money so they could buy the latest electronics, which are guarded too well to steal. (No question but they must have the latest beep-beeps like everybody else.)

I think if I heard someone talking about well-guarded electronics like that my mouth would be open in shock! Though I do know someone who pirates music and programmes because he reckons they’re too expensive and he’s not going to pay.
Helmets on motorbikes are a law here too. Many more lives saved.

You’re right about the seatbelts, Ali. I and both my children might not be alive if not for seatbelts. My son, in trying to avoid a rabbit, went into a gully, the back of the car pointing to the sky. My daughter was hit by a drunken driver. My husband turned right because he didn’t see the car trying to make it through a yellow light. I had a purple bruise from the seatbelt which saved my life. It’s tragic how many people die because they just don’t put the seatbelt on. —- Suzanne

You mean those super colossal huge gigantic bars with about 5,000 calories worth of chocolate in them aren’t supposed to be eaten in one sitting? Sorry, but my serving size is always one candy bar… no matter how big it is.

It’s so hard to just wrap up half and leave it until tomorrow. In fact there’s probably a law or something.

My dentist says it’s way better for the teeth to eat the whole chocolate bar in one go than to it it little by little every day. You’re welcome, enjoy.
