FF – Carousel of Doom!
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Brenda Cox.
I decided to use the American word (carousel) for the merry-go-round/roundabout, though I went for “candyfloss” as I draw the line at “cotton candy”.
The carousel began to spin as the last child clambered aboard. Parents looked on proudly, camera phones at the ready.
Brashnorag looked on, smiling. This was exactly what he’d come up from Hell for.
He snapped his fingers.
The carousel span faster and faster, leaving its once-sedate pace far behind. Children screamed as one by one they flew off.
One landed in a vat of candyfloss. Another in the arms of their parent. Yet another in a sandpit.
An afternoon of “miraculous escapes”.
Brashnarog smiled again. He may be a demon from the pits of Hell, but he wasn’t a complete bastard.
I’ve heard there is a bit of good in everyone. Just a little devilish fun! 😀

*chuckling madly* (off in all directions) —a demon with a conscience – how unexpected and lovely – it’s given me the “warm fuzzies” 😂😂😂
great little twist – well done!

An understudy of Wormwood, no doubt. Nothing like a bit of devilish humor to make it a day. 🙂

Haha, having just read Tannille’s story, yours felt like it was going the same way. Your demon seems more like a trickster than a true bad guy though. Good stuff.

Yes, he’s a right mischievous one. I was thinking of Crowley from “Good Omens”!

Hah. What fun. Still, I’d be wary if I met this guy. And a carousel from hell, it seems.

Well, this played right into that SYW question from a few weeks ago. But Zeeba doesn’t approve. She wants blood on the merry go round! Blood on the pavement! Blood on the candyfloss! Blood! Blood! Blood!!!!

Funnily enough I did think twice while writing it. I don’t want Zeeba getting annoyed with me and putting me on her hit list…

Dear Ali,
Aw, a demon with a heart. Don’t tell his boss. 😉 Funny, I’ve always called it a merry-go-round as opposed to a carousel. Now candy floss is another story. Much prettier sound than cotton candy.

Dear Rochelle,
He’s running pretty close to the line, job-wise!
That’s interesting, I always thought “merry-go-round” was the very British term! I’ve never liked the term “cotton candy” but I guess I grew up with “candy floss”, “cotton candy” is relatively new to me.

I dunno. I reckon that guy in the hoodie walking near the carousel is up to no good. 😁

Ha, my three ideas for a story this week were the roundabout, the hippy tram and the hoodie guy 🙂

I liked the twist! And I’m pleased that no children were harmed in the making of your script! 5 smiles out of 5 for this one, Ali

I like your diplomatic choices of terms. Your story had me laughing out loud. Have you ever seen the mini-series, “Death Comes to Town” with the actors from Kids in the Hall? I bet you would love it.

I looked it up and it does look like my thing. I’ll have to see if it’s available anywhere to watch.

You can probably see all of the episodes on youtube. My younger son gave me the show on DVD which says something about his sense of humor.
