FF – Not a Story
Here is my (not a) story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Roger Bultot.
Inspiration did not strike this week 😦
A street. A perfectly ordinary street. Somewhere foreign – those numberplates are far too small to be UK.
Pretty much nothing is happening. A story about nothing happening? Tricky, that.
There’s an air con unit top left. Could be an alien spider robot. But to what end? Haven’t we done that before?
Maybe that skyscraper in the distance. Maybe it has a viewing platform. And every so often that big spike shoots up and impales a tourist. That could work.
“Hey Mike, take a selfie…”
WHOOMP! Aaaargh!
“Oh, hell. Mike.”
I don’t think it has legs.
I’ll try again next week.

I puzzled over how to use the prompt too

Yeah, bit of a tricky one.

Not the most inspirational ideas, an empty street and lockdown raises it’s head.

This one was tough. Thanks for the tell-tale “WHOOMP! Aaaargh!” though. 😂

Gotta get those “sound effects” in regardless of a lack of any story 🙂

This is the best non story I’ve read in, oh, let’s say, twenty minutes!

Tis was fun nonetheless. 🙂 I think this could be in Singapore. Very, very clean streets (whipping for littering) and driving on the left side.

That’s a pretty harsh punishment 😮 Would keep the streets clean, though.

You never fail to find something even with nothing to work with.

Just write about not having anything to write about… 🙂

It fits the scene. Dream on, tomorrow you may find a story. 🙂 Nice touch.

Perhaps! Maybe the skyscraper is a space ship… 🙂

Well played! It’s possible to play football without a ball, and you’ve just proved it’s possible to write a story without a story. Nice one, Ali.

Only so many times one can get away with that though. I have played my Joker for this year 🙂

The vehicle in the foreground is black, which obviously means it’s being occupied by a couple of evil henchmen on surveillance. And it’s just conveniently parked directly under that AC. You know, I don’t think it was pushed out that far out the window just a couple seconds ago….

I think writing about nothing is as inspirational as writing about something. I thought this (not a) story was pretty good. The narrator reminded me of Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) and I liked the thought of a bored kid creating some monstrous monsters in his imagination as he’s out walking the neighborhood.

Now you mention it, it is a bit Calvin! There were quite a few I’ve read where he was just sitting around imagining things with Hobbes.

It seemed like such an unassuming street.
Oh but, DrAliMan lives there—where anything can happen.
