FF – A World Askew

Here is my post for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Roger Bultot.

I had nothing this week and finally, several days later than usual, ended up with this.

Did you notice? That the world is getting a little askew?

Don’t worry if you didn’t. It happens very slowly. Very slowly indeed. Just a tiny bit at a time. So it’s hard to spot.

Little by little everything goes sideways. Things aren’t quite right any more. If we don’t do something, pretty soon up will be down and left will be right and no-one will even have noticed.

But have you noticed?

Close your eyes and look at the world with your mind.

Does it look quite right to you?

Nope, it is definitely askew so you are spot on! Hope you are well 🙂

    • February 27, 2022 at 5:55 pm

Yep, thought so. I’m well thanks, hope you are too 🙂

Nothing a couple of quarts of rye won’t fix

This was worth waiting for. You’re exactly right – this is just how it feels. ‘If we don’t do something … ‘ That’s the key phrase. Powerful writing.

Thanks. It’s definitely getting to the point where it all turns upside down I think.

    Dear Ali,

Now that you mention it, I have noticed that things are more askew with the passing days. Well done.

      Dear Rochelle,
      It’s hard not to notice.

  5. February 26, 2022 at 12:09 pm

We all see the world from a different perspective and that is dangerous.

  6. February 26, 2022 at 12:16 pm

I don’t know what is left anymore. Seems like a crock of something or other!

  7. February 26, 2022 at 1:13 pm

…and here I thought I needed new glasses. It’s not me: it’s the world that’s gone fuzzy!

    • February 27, 2022 at 5:57 pm

Yep. New glasses not required 😮

  8. February 26, 2022 at 2:54 pm

Well, without axial tilt, there are no seasons after all. Can’t wait until we’re completely sideways like Uranus…

    • February 27, 2022 at 5:57 pm

Sorry, exactly what are you saying about my…

  9. February 26, 2022 at 3:21 pm

I wondered why I’m upside down and keep falling up.

  10. February 27, 2022 at 1:20 pm

This is perfect! I’m completely out of words this week.

For some reason I found this week’s very tough. I had two “comedy” ideas but couldn’t get an ending to either.

this is more serious side of you not shown often. well done.

Thanks! I did try some comedy but it didn’t pan out so I had to go serious.

The story of my life. Well done. 🙂

Nothing to add to that. Yes. We are the collective frogs in the pot and the water is getting warmer.

  14. February 28, 2022 at 12:03 pm

It’s so far askew I don’t recognise it anymore. Up is down and down is up.

    • February 28, 2022 at 2:06 pm

Same here. It seems to be getting more screwed up with every passing day.

A most sober and thoughtful entry this week, Alistair!

Most unlike me. Maybe I’m coming down with something 😮

When I read this piece, my mind (which is normally a very scary place) conjured Pablo Picasso, and quite possibly perhaps he literally saw the world slightly askew. I guess this is my perspective about perspective, and perhaps your perspective as well 😅

    • March 1, 2022 at 4:16 pm

Yes, I wonder if he did?
That’s a lot of perspectives to consider 🙂

Not your usual funny, flippant, cheeky self, but so so true, Ali. The world is definitely, and very sadly out of kilter.
