Sharing My World 22-06-2026

Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.

What food item has gone up out of all proportion in your opinion over the last year?
I haven’t really noticed from an individual item point of view, I just notice that my shopping bill has risen dramatically over the past couple of years.

When Covid hit in 2020, did you get caught without vital provisions, or were you able to buy what you needed when you needed it?
I had a bit of trouble getting a decent amount of cheese. It was during lockdowns that I started using the little shop in the village and stopped physically driving to supermarkets.

What food item was popular when you were a child that no longer seems to be readily available now?
I can’t really think of anything. I sometimes think that “you can’t get that any more” but in reality you can, I’ve just never looked.

Do you/your partner shop to a budget, do a big shop once a month and then small top ups or buy what you need as and when necessary?
I have a delivery from Tesco (“other supermarkets are available”) roughly every 6 weeks or so. That’s mainly for tinned goods (mostly baked beans), spreads, condiments and the like. Stuff which lasts but is overly expensive in the little village shop. I then top up in the village shop every week for bread, eggs, fruit and so on.

The local corner shop can be a godsend for the odd item or two, but multi buys and stocking the cupboards not so much. The corner shop I worked in was very reasonable, only 5p difference on butter or milk, and fresh fruit pretty reasonable. However, cold cut meat and freezer stuff was more expensive. We haven’t bought bread since buying our breadmaker last December.
Thanks for joining in and sharing your world. Have a good week.

I just need to try to remember to bulk buy the more expensive stuff at the supermarket, but the village shop is fine for weekly necessities.

it sounds liek your little village shop has what you need for the most part – and that is good

I couldn’t go without cheese. Just last week I had a delivery of really mature cheddar and some stilton 🙂
