The Beast of Drali Moor

Prompts for the Promptless – Cryptozoology is the search for legendary animals, usually in an attempt to evaluate or confirm the possibility of existence.  This includes looking for living examples of animals that are considered extinct, such as dinosaurs; animals whose existence lacks physical evidence but which appear in myths, legends, or are reported, such as Bigfoot and Chupacabra; and wild animals dramatically outside their normal geographic ranges, such as phantom cats. The animals cryptozoologists study are often referred to as cryptids, a term coined by John Wall in 1983.

Drali Moor. A wide expanse of moorland, marshes and woodland stretching from the centre of the land across to the small coastal village of Drali-On-Sea. An area of outstanding natural beauty (if you like that sort of thing), it is home to a scattering of farmers, sheep and, some say, the “Beast of Drali Moor”.

Few have caught a glimpse of the beast; no pictures exist. However, those who claim to have seen it swear it is real.

Beast of Drali Moor

Artist’s impression of the Beast.
It looked way scarier in my head.

Sheep disappear, never to be seen again. Six months ago, Mrs Skittles, the local florist vanished without a trace. The beast left nothing behind, not her body, her clothes or even her suitcase. At almost exactly the same time, Mr Gripps the local parcel delivery man also disappeared.

The beast knows no limits!

Famous big game hunter-turned-cryptozoologist Angus MacScotland recently went in search of the beast. Below is a video he made during his hunt. Be warned – it is not for the faint at heart.

His widow has asked that, rather than send flowers to his funeral, well-wishers could send money to her new charity – “Cryptid Aggressees – Support and Help” (please make cheques payable to “C.A.S.H”).

The mangled remains of his body were found 10 miles from his camp. And 15 miles, 23 miles and 57 miles away.

The Beast of Drali Moor – fact or fiction?

You decide.

Yes, I can’t help thinking there’s some sort of scam going on there with that charity.

There are some doubters who reckon Mrs Skittles ran off with Mr Gripps, but I vote “fact” as well. We mustn’t discount Mr MacScotland’s eye witness account, after all.

Good Grief, I don’t know if I should praise your vivid imagination or be concerned your spending to much time alone.
    Enjoyed the video, creative.

A late comment but your story reminds me of the book Spoon River Anthology. How only the dead knew the truth. I just passed that book on to others to struggle with.
