The Best Medicine – Never Happy

Weekly Writing Challenge: The Best Medicine – This week, write about whatever topic you’d like, but go for laughs.

Write about whatever I want? I can do that! No bother. Not a problem.

Wait a sec though – “go for laughs”? Well, there’s the rub. Humour is so subjective, and I’m not the funniest fella at the best of times. Tell you what, I’ll shoot for “mildly witty” and we’ll see where we end up.

The title of this post – “Never Happy” – is perhaps not a promising start. I don’t know about you, but to me that doesn’t scream “side-splittingly riotously hilarious” (try saying that three times fast). It sounds more like I’m going to have a rant, or maybe I’m going to wax lyrical about something that’s really getting me down.

So what, I hear you ask, am I going to complain about? I’ll give you a clue – I’m British.

That’s right! It’s the weather. That’s not what you guessed? Pretend you did! I’ll never know.

I’ve complained about the weather before (British, remember?). It’s too cold. It’s icy. It’s too windy. It won’t stop raining. Here’s a new one for you – it’s too hot!

Never Happy

“Never Happy” by DraliDoodles (TM)

Let’s take a quick Haiku-break.

Hostile sun blazing fire
Melting roads and hearts and minds
Air con broken

Hope you enjoyed it.

As I drove home this evening the thermometer informed me that it was 26 degrees C. I’ve just used the marvel which is Google and it informs me that this equals 78.8 Fahrenheit! I know what some of you are thinking. “That’s not very hot!” Well, it is to me. It appears that “too hot” is as subjective as humour.

My office is eco-friendly. We don’t have that planet-destroying toxic chemical-fuelled air con. Oh no! We have some sort of “comfort cooling” air recycling system. Today it managed to get the temperature to a not-so-comfortable 28 degrees C. Way to go, eco-friendly comfort cooling air con.

I didn’t wear shorts, but I did break out my trousers with the detachable legs. Detachable legs! What’ll they think of next? I was going to post a picture of me wearing the trousers with one leg removed so you could see the flexibility, but I thought that some of you might be reading this while eating dinner. I worried that the sight of my pasty-white leg might cause a case of the “tummy upsets”. So, no picture.

I also looked in my drawers for a light-weight T-shirt. It’s been so long since I’ve needed a light-weight T-shirt that it had mould on it from sitting in the drawer for years.

Mould!

And to add very serious insult to injury, it was my Red Dwarf T-shirt!

Mouldy T-Shirt

My poor mouldy T-shirt – please be OK!

I do hope the washing machine can work its magic.

It looks like I’m Never Happy.

Very sad.

      Thanks!
Sorry it took me a while to reply to you – your comment went into my spam. Several of mine have been doing that lately too…
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post – if there’s one thing we Brits excel at, it’s complaining incessantly about the weather 🙂

Loved it! It passed the witty part, for sure 🙂

And I’m so sorry to hear about your Red Dwarf, shirt. Damn that mold!

      Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I have high hopes for my T-shirt. I tend to think of my washing machine as some kind of miracle worker. We shall see!
To be fair, it’s probably too small for me now anyway. I bought it in the early 90s and not only has it shrunk, I’ve “expanded” 😦

Aawwww poor red dwarf t-shirt! Man, I hate mold!
I love the DraliDoodle, I can relate, that picture best illustrates my feelings towards the weather, in Korea, and really anywhere!
Detachable legs = pure brilliance! 🙂

The problem is I don’t have the guts to actually detach the legs – no-one wants to see me in shorts!
Glad you liked the DraliDoodle 🙂

Oh, my friend, let those worries go and detach like nobody’s business! There is nothing better than a detachable pant on a hot day!
        Talk about instant gratification!! 😀
More DraliDoodles are in order, I can’t wait to see the next creation!

Ah, I can relate! I was in London just a few days ago and was quite disappointed with the weather because I really wanted the cooler British weather, instead it was 26; I can handle that, and coming from South Africa I am used to the heat, but I wanted cool British weather…I must still say though that I loved London! 🙂

Anyway, thanks for the giggle, you are quite a witty bloke 😉

      I’m glad you had a giggle 🙂
We’re in the midst of a bit of a heat wave at the moment, even here in Cornwall. The South East, especially London, often has a lot of sun and heat (as in mid-20s) during the summer.

I must admit, I’m not a huge fan of London. Too big, too many people. OK for a couple of days to see the sights, but I really wouldn’t want to live there. I’m not a big-city sort of person.

It was my first visit and even though I loved London, I vowed to come back for another visit, but this time in the country… I also prefer a quieter more peaceful surrounding as apposed to the hustle and bustle of the city 🙂

          I’m glad you enjoyed London!
There are plenty of beautiful places to visit for countryside. Places I have been to – The South West (me! – moors, woods, beaches, cliffs), Mid/North Scotland (mountains, moors, rivers, forests), Wales (forests, mountains).
See my Wales holiday posts from a couple of weeks ago for pictures of Wales and there was also a photo challenge post with a couple of pictures of Cornwall and Scotland).

I’ll be in London soon (passport permitting) & I’m hoping for some cooler weather while I’m there. It’s 30 C+ here every day & being British I start to wilt a bit. Love the Haiku & the DraliDoodle 🙂

It’s somewhere around low to mid-20s C in London at the moment, according to BBC weather.

Brilliant my pal! 🙂 And the drali doodling is jawdroppingly awesome!
I could feel your panic -hunting out ‘summer’ clothing too! Always a shock when we get slapped with the beautiful bright orb that is the sun. We British are just never prepared for the weather – any weather actually.
I too have the ‘detachable leg’ troose, alas, I tend to unzip the bottom layer to enable the hem to land at the correct position ie my ankle – rather than 12 inches in front of me……………;)

I’m sure the weather won’t last, so I’m not packing away my jumpers and heavy coats just yet!

I’m surprised that Cornwall is cooler than Somerset – isn’t it supposed to be the other way round? The scales tipped 35 degrees on Sat – too hot!!! I don’t like complaining about the weather, but . . .

On another note. That mouldy t-shirt is a little disconcerting.

It definitely got pretty hot over the weekend! A bit of a breeze would have been nice.
I think sometimes Cornwall can be a bit cooler because you’re always a stone’s throw away from one coast or the other.
I’m washing the t-shirt tonight – fingers crossed!
