A Morning at Trelissick Garden
I took a trip to Trelissick Garden yesterday and took some snaps. The first set are from the “woodland walk” (it goes down to the water before entering the woods) and the second is from inside the garden itself.
Here is the set from the gardens. Please excuse my finger at the top of one of the shots!

It’s amazing what you guys term as a garden in your neck of the woods.
Here, gardens kinda have these hedges that block everything else, and they’re definitely much tinier than your gardens over there . What you have there is our version of a park 😀

Most National Trust “gardens” are actually those of “stately homes”. The occupants often still live in the house (and allow people to look around inside sometimes), but the National Trust (a charity which owns huge areas of coastland, gardens, parks and so on) buys (I guess) the gardens (stately homes are awfully expensive to run nowadays!).
So these gardens would have been owned by someone extremely rich in days gone by, I expect.
They can be quite expensive to visit, but I have a membership for around 60 pounds a year which gives me free access to hundreds of places like this around England, Wales and (by partnership agreement) Scotland.

It’s a Samsung Galaxy S3 so not a bad camera. I then shrink the photos by a third to save WordPress storage space. I’d love to be able to fiddle with settings like aperture and whatnot though, and be able to zoom in and stuff like that.

Yes, it’s nice to be able to just turn up at these places and walk in. It’s a worthwhile charity too, I don’t know who would look after all these lovely places otherwise.
I walked half the woodland trail and then cut back in time for the opening of the gardens. The full trail is several miles and is hugely popular with dog walkers.

BIn Boston, we have Boston Gardens — across the road from Boston Commons forming one big patch of green in the middle of the oldest part of the city. It is similar to your Gardens, a cross between a park and an arboretum. Actually, I love the gardens with the Swan Boats, statures, duck pond, trees and flowers, all labeled for we dunderheads who can’t tell a Chinese lily from a geranium 🙂 Beautiful gardens. I think Boston is a bit more “British” than most American cities.

This place has little labels identifying the plants as well. I think all this place is missing is a little pond or lake.
It’s nice to hear there’s something like this in the middle of a big city like Boston. It’s like a little oasis of calm.

How lovely! it looks so calm and relaxing. I think I could spend hours there, take a bagged lunch and a good book and a camera I’d be there all day 🙂
