Sharing My World 2015 Week 6

People sing, as one rejoice
Hailing loudly in one voice
Trumpets play and flags unfurled
Now it’s time to Share My World!

(hosted by Cee at her photography blog)

What was the last time you went to a new place?
Last month I went to Cardinham Woods, near Bodmin. Not only have I never been before, but I didn’t even know it was there! It was my Godson’s first birthday and he likes to trot around the place, so I took the day off work to join him for a nice walk and lunch in the little café there.

If you were or are a writer do you prefer writing short stories, poems or novels, other?  And what type of genre would you prefer?
I write really short flash fiction. Genre-wise, humour, horror, gore, dark, dark humour, sci-fi. Really pretty much everything except lovey-dovey stuff.

I know I’ve got a novel in me but I’m too lazy to start working on the plan and the characters and yadda yadda yadda. It’s a shame because it would have been awesome and a best seller and there’d be a film and I’d be walking down the red carpet and everything but there you go.

Out of your five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing) which is your favourite?
Oh golly gosh, I don’t know. I usually need at least two senses in concert. Unless I’m actually in a concert, in which case hearing would be just the thing. We have all five for a reason and I’m not really willing to give any of them up. Sorry.

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?
Ack. Another impossible question.

Okey-dokey. The key here is the phrase “at random”. I’m guessing that at least 50% of the people chosen will be living in poverty/under an oppressive regime/suffering from some disease/in prison/living in a war zone. So I’m already at 50. The remaining 50 have “nothing really to complain about” compared to the first 50, so now we have the “tricky” bunch.

I’m perfectly content but could be “doing better” for various reasons. So I’m going to say 30/100 people are leading a more satisfying life than me.

Am I over-thinking this?

Beautiful photos of a lovely looking wood….. and excellent answers to hard to answer questions!

    • February 15, 2015 at 10:22 am

Thanks! The wood has a number of lovely walks and it’s only about a 20 minute drive away. Another great place I’ve discovered to go walking.
Those were some pretty hard questions this week!

It looks really magical. Wonderful place for kids to run about I would think!

        • February 15, 2015 at 5:19 pm

I reckon it’ll be busy in the summer.

Lovely pics of the winter woodland, and the pines add that splash of green. Your other answers are cleverly done. The second one made me laugh. I think it’s about time you made the effort to get that best-seller out there. If it’s as funny as most of your flash fiction pieces, it might just get you that red carpet treatment. 🙂

    • February 15, 2015 at 5:18 pm

It is lovely. I didn’t even realise there were pines in Cornwall!
I’ll have to get started on that novel. The red carpet awaits! And thanks 🙂

Beautiful wooded area, Ali. I can just see you on that red carpet. Don’t forget your old flash fiction friends when you become rich and famous. 🙂 — Suzanne

You’ll all get an honourable mention 🙂

  4. February 15, 2015 at 5:21 pm

I wasn’t asking what sense you want to give up 🙂 I enjoyed reading your answers this week. Thanks for sharing.

    • February 15, 2015 at 5:28 pm

No, but I couldn’t choose a favourite without imagining what it would be like without having the others. Then I panicked 🙂

  5. February 15, 2015 at 6:22 pm

I don’t know about over-thinking, but definitely thinking. I couldn’t figure out any way to judge a satisfying vs. MORE satisfying life. To me, the entire think is subjective and if you are satisfied with your life, your satisfied. There’s no “more” or “less.” Contentment is contentment. I don’t know what more or less contentment even means. But you find objective points by which to gauge. I thought that was very clever.

I’ll wait for the book and the movie. I’m sure it will happen. Just not this year 😉

    • February 16, 2015 at 11:33 am

As a scientist I tend to try to distil everything down to facts and figures 🙂 It is very difficult to gauge “levels” of contentment.
There will be a book and movie deal, oh yes 🙂

I really like that first photograph.

The thought of writing a novel is almost a scary as writing one – I’ve been thinking on it for years now. I panic trying to come up with 100 words for Friday Fictioneers.

I worry about that too – that no decent story will come to mind come Wednesday.

I would need to know the definition of “satisfying life, which items were being measured and on what scale to come up with a number. I am sure that says something about the general, overall answer though.

    • February 16, 2015 at 1:01 pm

Yeah, tricky one that. I need numbers, stats and whatnot, people!

  8. February 17, 2015 at 6:43 pm

Great look at your thought process.

    • February 17, 2015 at 7:51 pm

They’re very analytical, as you’ve seen.
