Diner of DOOM
It’s Friday Fictioneers time again, hosted by Rochelle, and this week the photo was contributed by Raina Ng. We get around 100 words to write about a picture, and you can read this week’s other stories by clicking on the blue froggy.
Be afraid. Be very afraid, as I present to you “The Diner of DOOM”.
Kat and Jed exchanged anxious glances as they hid behind the diner’s counter. Outside the noise was getting worse – banging on the door and windows, groaning, breaking glass.
“They’re still out there. What are we going to do?” asked Kat, trembling.
“What can we do? Call someone? Who’s going to come? We’re on our own.”
“Barricade the doors,” said Kat. “If they get in here… it’ll be carnage.”
“We could distract them. Throw them some burgers.”
“Urgh! The thought of watching them mindlessly rip into the meat…” shuddered Kat. “Animals!”
“Well,” said Jed, “it was your idea to do a Student Happy Hour.”
That’s great. Really tense and then I laughed out loud!

Mission accomplished, then 🙂 Glad you liked it!

We had a diner like that near college. I tremble with the memories … but man oh man, did they make a GREAT burger. Greasy, with fried onions, served up with chips on a hot platter. Ah, those were the days.

That sounds like a student’s dream! My mouth’s watering just at the thought.

If there’s a happy hour, the students will come! Any excuse for a happy hour. Good one! I’m dying. I can’t think of anything at the moment.

“Happy Hour” is like “Holy Grail” for students. It certainly was when I was one!
I’m sure something will come to you 🙂

It’s best not to get between students and college athletes and their food. Especially if it’s “all you can eat” 🙂

I laughed at the end. I’ve been to Student Happy Hours and that is an apt description. Hope the hamburger was cooked! Don’t want to get sued for creating bad stomachs, too.
Great story and fun read.

I always put a “bad stomach” down to the ten pints of beer when I was a student. Maybe it was the food all along 🙂

Yes, it’s always the food.
Beer is a whole food group on to itself.
Wow, 10 pints. You would loose me at 8!

Shades of Animal House. That was hilarious. Those kids would frighten zombies away. I loved that twist at the end, Ali. Seems fun-loving students are more dangerous in a pack. 😀 — Suzanne

Dear Rochelle,
I’m glad I made you laugh! I think I remember you commenting on someone else’s contribution once that you’re not into zombie stories (if I’m remembering correctly), so I did wonder what you’d be thinking of this until you reached the end 🙂
