Sharing My World 2016 Week 11

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.

How many siblings do you have? What’s your birth order?
I have one brother. He’s 18 months younger than me and lives about 7 miles away.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?
Mostly I would rather drive. Maybe it’s a control thing. It is nice to be driven around sometimes, but that rarely happens as I live alone, so it’s nice for a change! On a long journey, I’d definitely prefer to drive, though. And I like my car!

Fiesta ST-3

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own?
This rarely happens, though by coincidence it did happen a couple of weeks ago during extremely high winds. I like candles but I worry about the house catching fire 🙂 so I go for torches (that’s what we call “flashlights” over here).

I have one in my work bag, one in the car, one in my bedside table and two in the kitchen drawer. One of them is one of those which has different modes and can be hung up or arranged like a lamp – that one was very handy in the blackout for showering and whatnot.

List at least five of your favourite types of animals?  (any animal to domestic to wild to marine life)
I like small furry animals the best.

Cats, some of those cute little guys you get in Australia like koalas, quokka (quokkas?) and wombats. Here’s a link to a Daily Mail article with those guys in. I think pandas are cute and also meerkats (why is meerkat not in my spell checker? – it wants to change it to “beermat”). I think raccoons look quite cute too, at least in the picture I got from Goldfish’s online store.

How cute is that?

A great idea to keep all those torches around. Spellcheck can he hilarious sometimes. Believe me, raccoons are not as cute as that picture. The babies are but the big ones get mean and smell nasty. A friend of mine had one. She found out it’s illegal to keep wild ones. We had one in our attic one time and it finally left. Wild animals are wild and behave that way. It’s best they stay in the wild. Good answers, Ali. 🙂 — Suzanne

It’s a shame they’re not as cute as Goldfish’s picture :-(. We don’t have them over here so I’ve never seen a real one. Never mind!

Meerkats are cute! I also like those tiny little creatures with the huge eyes (I think they are in Australia too but I’m not sure). What are they called?

Ooh, yes! A quick Google for “Australian mammal huge eyes” yielded “Tarsier”. Although in some of the pictures they look like Gollum out of The Hobbit 🙂

D’oh! Someone put your steering wheel on the wrong side of the car! I can’t believe it hasn’t been recalled yet! 😉

And I learned more British terminology, as I’d have never guessed flashlights were called anything else but flashlights!

Raccoons were my first love, so I’ll forgive you not giving squirrels a mention…

Apparently driving on the left is a throw back to the days when people rode horses. Most were right-handed so had their sword on the left. Riding on the left meant any hostile would be on their right, thus allowing the rider to easily draw their sword and decapitate them 🙂

According to my UK English spell checker, “flashlight” isn’t even a word…

After seeing so many cute squirrel pictures recently on your and Trisha’s blogs I can’t believe they didn’t get a mention 😦

Thanks for the explanation of torches. I was actually thinking about looking it up. You saved me some time. Small animals can be so cute. 😀

No worries! I think in the US the word “torch” is only used for something with pitch or oil or something at the top and lit, like the Olympic torch or what they used to use long ago…

Great! I’ll send over a few voles and a handful of rats from my garden when I get back to BG 😉 Love the picture, cute. Personally I like squirrels, I know they can be little monsters, but they amuse me – I could watch them for hours.

Yay, voles and rats, lovely 😉
I like squirrels too – as ES pointed out I forgot to put them on my list 🙂

The raccoon picture is so cute! I think small, furry animals are the best too and I wish it were possible to have raccoons for pets but they have such sharp teeth and can be terribly destructive, so I guess it wouldn’t work. It’s a shame though. 🙂

Yes, little baby lions and lynx’s and whatnot are really cute too but unfortunately they grow up into merciless killing machines… 🙂

When I was younger, I loved having ‘torches’ in the house… my mom did not approve! We could only have them camping…

I used to read under the blankets with a torch after bedtime, so I expect my mum wasn’t all that keen on torches either!

Blackouts are relatively rare in most parts of Britain, I think, but it’s always good to be prepared, just in case. We have lots of torches around the place, like you. We also have a couple of fancy oil lamps – very seldom used. Kids always love to play with torches. I suppose it’s exciting to see a single beam in a dark room.
Unlike you, I prefer to be a passenger, partly because Nick prefers to drive. I do like sight-seeing as we travel, and reading for a while (until i start feeling ill). And cute little furballs are just too adorable. How could anyone dislike them? But I do love horses. Such magnificent creatures. 🙂

I’ve had one blackout during a massive storm a couple of months ago. The blackout before that was sometime in he 1970s 🙂
I never really get the opportunity to be a passenger 🙂
