Sharing My World 2017 Week 2
Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.
If you lost a bet and had to dye your hair a colour of the rainbow for a week, what colour would it be?
I now have voice control at home courtesy of Amazon’s Alexa (as I threatened to do on New Year’s Day) and I have wi-fi light bulbs on the way. Because who wants to have to stand up to turn the lights on and off?
Light switches are so last year, don’t you find?
So why not have voice-controlled hair?
“Alexa, turn my hair cerise.”
It’s the future!
If you could choose one word to focus on for 2017, what would it be?
“Discombobulated.” Because it’s such a cool word. I need to use it more. I’m gonna focus the hell out of it all year.
What was one thing you learned last year that you added to your life?
I can’t think of anything. 2016 came and went rather rapidly. Where did it go?
If life was ‘just a bowl of cherries’… which fruit other than a cherry would you be..?
I’m going with physalis (no, I’d never heard of it either) as it is described as having a “mild, refreshing acidity”.
Also, its name seems to be an amalgamation of “physics” and “Ali”, so it’s just right for me 🙂

When your hair turns cerise, Ali, be sure to post a picture of yourself. Good answers. 😀 — Suzanne

Hahaha! Great answers! Alexa, dye my hair -orange-. LOL! (That would be weird if it really could).

It would be really weird and freaky. And a little scary 🙂

Haha! Yes, it would be.

I hope there will not come a day when Alexa is answering the weekly prompts and you are being demanded to play music for her….

That could never happen… what? Sorry, have to go, Alexa is calling and she sounds pissed.

I have to dye my hair today and have to stick with blonde. I’m old school and can’t stand the outrageous colors on myself. Plus “blondes have more fun.” Have at it everyone…clowns are back in. lol.

Can’t wait to see you with alizarin crimson hair! It has your name in it!
Discombobulation is an excellent word!

I had to look up “alizarin”. It’s 1,2-dihydroxyanthraquinone (formula C14H8O4). Ah, now it make sense 😦 Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Sounds safe anyway…
I’d look great with red hair 🙂

It’s a deep blood red with a bit of blue undertone! Perfect for when you are writing your doomsday pieces 😀

I like the sound of that colour 🙂

“physalis” …yeah, I looked it up and I still don’t understand? And, by the way.. are voice-controlled light bulbs for real? Yes, I can be a real sucker sometimes? So, I ask?

Physalis is a fruit in the nightshade family. Like tomatoes.
Well, Wi-fi-controlled light bulbs are real, eg Philips Hue. Then you link them through Alexa/Siri (and very soon Google Home I expect) for the voice control.

How about, “Alexa, turn my hair cerise with a hint of physalis hue!” and your hair starts to smoke because Alexa just shot a fuse? Oh golly, I think I’ve been reading too much of your flash fiction 🙂

Maybe best to stick to simple commands until we know how much she can take or it’ll be “cerise with a hint of flame” 😦

I’m just saying “no” to robotic control of my environment. For one thing, the only exercise I get is getting up to turn things on and off. For another, unless Amazon beats the U.S. government, it would be like planting a spy in my own house. Next, I’m sure, it’ll be drones. Wait, what’s that hovering over the driveway?

That drone will be there, right outside, until you get some voice control. Always listening, always watching…

Discombobulated is a fun word to say 😀

I think we should all try to fit it into conversation at least once a day.

I’ve had physalis fruit before, but only at restaurants, as a garnish with certain dishes. It has a refreshing taste!

I’d never even heard of it. That doesn’t mean I haven’t eaten it though, it looked kinda familiar.

The only way I’d ever die my hair any colour at all is if I lost a bet, but I do like the idea of voice controlled hair! Disambiguated is a wonderful word. 🙂 Great answers, Ali.

That was meant to safety ‘discombobulated’ – autocorrect is very annoying!

I expect “safety” was meant to be “say” too 🙂

It was. Grr. I should never write comments on my kindle – they never seem to say what I intend them to say!

I’m discombobulated that you’ve never heard of, and presumambly never eaten, physalis. They do sometimes have them in Sainsbury’s.
Great answers. Looking forward to the cerise hair 🙂

I think I’m misreading the question. Given the choice, I’d not be a fruit at all as I don’t want a human or other animal to devour me! 🙂
Alexa sounds interesting, but also kind of intrusive. I don’t know; jury’s out for me on that piece of technology. Cool answers as always, though. I didn’t know cerise was a color either, nor anything about physalis. You see, not only are you an entertainer, but you’re a teacher.

I’m loving Alexa! And she doesn’t do anything unless you ask, just sits there quietly. She’s controlling some of my lights as well now 🙂
Maybe I should change my strapline to “the educational blog” 🙂

I like the idea of a, shall we say, electronic brainbox that’s not a computer per se, but don’t think it’s something I really need. Nonetheless, if it’s made, it’s made for a reason; someone finds it useful!

Me, I find it useful 🙂

I think cerise coloured hair would suit you well! You’d certainly stand out in a crowd. Not sure about the voice-controlled bit, though. I’d never heard of a physalis fruit – probably because I live in a past century – but now that I have, I’ll have to find some to try!
Have a great year discombobulating. 🙂

Yeah, but they’re £20 a pop (the Philips Hue ones). So I’m sticking to voice and app control for now! Plus the motion controlled one I just put in my kitchen.
