FF – Peace Wheel
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

Millions queued to ride the Peace Wheel.
It had appeared overnight, a mystery. Shortly after, the crime rate dropped to zero. Countries dismantled their arsenals and armies. Warlords took up farming. People the world over stopped concentrating on jobs, on ambitions.
Hate, the will to fight, disappeared. People were suddenly “getting along” with each other.
Hidden in high orbit, Dresh N’Gak smiled. In days the population of this backwards backwater planet would have lost all self-will. They would be ripe for conquest! He twisted a dial, increasing signal strength.
The “Peace Wheel” thrummed with renewed energy.
Wow, Dresh N’Gak sounds like a dangerous alien. Where is the Justice League when you need it? 🙂 — Suzanne

Back to arguing among themselves, probably. I’m sure they’ll come good, though 🙂

Oooooo lulled into a false sense of security… then BAM! Nice one!!

I’m a little distressed that conquest is achieved by peace and harmony

Yeah, what’s that all about? Damn aliens.

I knew it was too good to be true. There’s no getting away from human (or inhuman) nature.

You’ve imagined an ingenious means of alien invasion. Let’s hope they fail!

I don’t care if they fail or not – I’ve been exposed to the signal for too long 🙂

Dear Ali,
Oh my. We might could use this kind of take over. 😉 I’m put in mind of The Monitors, a 1969 Sci Fi movie where aliens brought peace. Humans couldn’t take it. Well done as always, sir.

Dear Rochelle,
I did wonder if this is just the sort of conquest we need round about now 🙂
I’ve not seen that film but I can believe it. I recall that in the film “The Matrix” it’s mentioned that the first Matrix was an ideal society – which humans rejected.
I’m glad you liked it!

Oh dear. I bet Dresh N’Gak’s smile would scare the remaining population to death with all these wildly waving tentacles. I’m glad I didn’t go SciFi this week although that was my first thought. You did it so much better. Sheep, being herded…

At that point I don’t suppose humans will care how many tentacles he has.
The first thing I saw was a giant antenna – too much Dr Who I suspect. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Luring the humans into a false sense of security. I kept telling them not to trust Dresh N’Gak! 😀

But do they listen? No. Well, they’re just going to have to learn the hard way… 🙂

Oh I suddenly think our wars are preferable
Are the invaders humanivores?

I think we should have a referendum to decide. Although I’m not sure I can be bothered!
Mega brilliant story!

I’m not sure I can be bothered with a referendum either – signal or no signal.

I was waiting for that shoe to drop …
And while I don’t think it is an either/or (war or no-will-power), I do think that balance is always a good thing.
Peace is, too.
Nicely done!

Maybe Dresh will sort us all out and then be on his way. We could use a little guidance!

Fascinating, I saw a similar use for the wheel. It may be Dresh N’Gak who is behind the worrying stories that I am hearing. We should share information for the sake of humanity

In the meantime, while this sissy bunch of aliens is messing around with “peace wheels”… a real mothership full of alien invaders is just going to start blasting everything and staging a proper invasion of Earth. Bunch of hippies… they’ve probably got a tie dye spaceship…

Yeah, let’s get back to reality here. Out of the way, hippies, we’re gonna show you how a real invasion is done. Attack!

Clever story Ali – love your examples of a peaceful life – ‘warlords took up farming’. Let’s hope someone has a punch up and gets the aggro going again !
