FF – Teen Love Story
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

Teen Love Story
Jimmy stopped and looked at the snow-covered flowers.
Beautiful?
Bedraggled.
Life had lost all colour.
He kicked them, sending snow sparkles flying amongst the trees. He was alone, all alone, and always would be. He knew that now. She had blanked him, his life was over, a pathetic messโฆ
Bzzz beep!
A text! A text from her!
hey jimmy soz battery died would love to go school winter prom with you pick me up 7 30 โค
Life was beautiful! Jimmy felt like singing! Joy to the world!
Heart bursting with happiness, he headed to the pharmacy to buy some condoms. Game on!

No happy medium with this guy. I think the condoms may be optimistic though! ๐

Yes, I expect there’s a lot of over-optimism at school dances ๐

Been there, done that. Then coming home alone with my condoms safe and sound in my pocket. Normality restored, life back to (just one shade of) grey ๐

Oh my. I hope he doesn’t set his expectations too high. Made me grin at the middle and at the end. Boys and their toys.

I fear he may be disappointed by the end of the evening!

Dear Ali
How quickly the mood can change. Condoms? It seems he’s assuming a lot. But at least she hasn’t ghosted him after all. Good one.

Dear Rochelle,
Yes, at least he’ll still get to go to the dance with her, though probably straight home afterwards ๐

That kid needs to slow way down. He could be making a bad mistake and really end up alone. Also, condoms are not foolproof. What’s his hurry. —- Suzanne

Oh, you had me giggling at your last line. There was me thinking you’d written a romance…Are kids nowadays just less hypocritical than my generation, I wonder?

Is that really how boys think these days? A prom date means sex? I felt his sorrow, then his joy, until that moment.

Hormones running high and like all emotional teenage dramas will end in embarrassment.

Very probably, I think he’s set his hopes too high and it’s all going to go wrong.

Ah, the life of a teenager. Don’t miss it, I have to say, the mood swings, way up-way down. You made a great point in the story. When you are feeling down, life does often look dull. I have had a fair amount of dull days as of late. Well done!

Life is so extreme at that age, right up or right down. Cracking last line. Reminded me of a mate I had at that age. His pockets were always bursting with condoms, mainly because he never got to use them, but he was always hopeful.
