FF – Death on the Muddy Nile

Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. Today’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

“Ah, this is the life, eh, dear?”

Ten minutes of light drizzle and we’re knee-deep in scummy water.

“Basking in the lovely weather…”

Lovely weather?

“… gazing out over the lake. The locals call it ‘The Nile’ hah!”

Huge muddy puddle.

“I think I’ll go for a swim!”

Maybe a swamp creature will rise up and eat him.

“Help, my darling, my foot is caught in a shopping trolley! Help!”

I must have left my hearing aid indoors.

I better leave it a few minutes before I phone the ambulance, make sure he’s properly dead.

If you can’t find a swamp monster, a shopping trolley will do in a pinch

And there’s bound to be a trolley lurking somewhere under any body of water.

I completely sympathise… With her! Excellent.

This wild water swimming has really taken off during the pandemic!

    • April 29, 2021 at 8:41 am

And every piece of wild water has at least one shopping trolley!

Swamp creature or shopping trolley, one will do as well as the other. I suppose that’s what he gets for such a cheap holiday. Quirky funny as always, Ali!

    • April 29, 2021 at 8:44 am

As long as he’s dead, she doesn’t really mind 🙂

  13. April 29, 2021 at 5:39 am

My store would like its shopping cart back. Looks like I’ll have to amputate…

    • April 29, 2021 at 8:45 am

His leg will make an interesting trolley accessory as it trundles around Mecca…

For ever the opportunist as a new life beckons, I don’t think she’ll be back to this beauty spot–ever.

    • April 29, 2021 at 3:50 pm

I don’t know. Possibly a reminder of the happiest day of her life!

I don’t like the blue chairs, green is much better for around water. LOL You’re a wicked boy, Ali 😄

Now there’s a loving couple. I love the swamp-monster trolley.

  18. April 29, 2021 at 10:24 am

Wonderful interchange between the two. Love the shopping trolley!

  19. April 29, 2021 at 4:01 pm

i suppose it was an unexpected ending that worked beautifully for the protagonist. 🙂

You never fail to entertain Ali! A great conversation even though it was a bit one-sided!

    My story!

    Dear Ali,

Not a match made in heaven, is it? What a way to go.

    • May 1, 2021 at 4:59 am

      Dear Rochelle,
No, the sparkle has definitely gone out of that relationship.

  22. April 30, 2021 at 6:03 pm

WOW … I can see she’s unhappy. LOL
    Be Safe 😷 … Isadora 😎

Wait until she reads his will. He’s been under few illusions as to her feelings towards him.

    • May 1, 2021 at 5:01 am

Ha ha. I didn’t think of that. Maybe she’s about to find a new reason to hate him 😮

  24. May 1, 2021 at 3:51 pm

Now that’s what I call terminal cheerfulness!

  25. May 1, 2021 at 4:01 pm

    Enough is enough, she said!

    • May 2, 2021 at 6:05 am

Maybe not wiling to actually kill him, but if he’s going to have an unfortunate swimming accident, well, what can you do? 🙂

  26. May 1, 2021 at 6:36 pm

Love it Ali, most entertaining and ironic. Good title too !

  27. May 3, 2021 at 8:51 am

She is going to get away with it I don’t think Hercule Poirot is around the muddy Nile area.

    • May 3, 2021 at 4:01 pm

No, he wouldn’t be seen dead on one of these “lesser” Niles!

  28. May 3, 2021 at 12:25 pm

Ha, she certainly sounds as though she’s had enough. Cruel treatment but sometimes you just have to dish it out like that. 🙂

    • May 3, 2021 at 4:02 pm

She’s probably happy it was an accident and she didn’t have to “arrange” anything 🙂
