FF – Hidden
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Jennifer Pendergast.
Gary rubbed his hands, blowing on them for warmth. It was freezing this morning, but such a beautiful day!
He could hear birds chirping in the trees. They must be cold! Even though the sun had risen, it was weak. The temperature wouldn’t rise above freezing until Spring.
He reached the pond, small but deep and a favourite spot for young lovers. A local “Casanova”, he’d been here only last night.
She shouldn’t have rejected him but the ice, as he had hoped, was completely opaque. He’d be hundreds of miles away before they found the body.
Such a beautiful day!

Great build up…ordinary Gary….in fact a cold blooded probable serial killer…

Yes, I’m guessing she’s not the only unfortunate victim.

Oh that last line packs a punch. Great story, Ali!

Thanks! It doesn’t seem to be bothering him at all.

Perhaps he should have taken her somewhere warmer

He could have dug a proper grave then.

Yes, we went down very similar paths. You have ended with quite a mystery, though!

I wonder where the other bodies are….

Scattered in ponds across the county, perhaps 😮

O dear, I hope that a unseasonal thaw sets in straight away.🙂

That might put the authorities on his trail for sure.

Maybe not hundreds of miles away after all.

As long as the ice doesn’t thaw, he’ll be okay.

Such a beautiful day – ouch!

He doesn’t seem at all bothered by his evil deeds.

Nor harm in checking out your handiwork. I like a thorough assassin.

He needs to make sure everything is neat and tidy before hitting the road.

I suspect in the springtime a few bodies will pop up to the surface of the pond. Gary sounds like a nice guy, you know the type who you enjoy watching as he sits on the electric chair.
I like how you lead us into the event through the view of a beautiful winter’s day.

Yes, I’m guessing she’s not the only one. Maybe one day he’ll fry!

Ugh, what a piece of …. The repetition of the ‘beautiful day’ line makes this especially powerful.

Thanks, I had to cut some words elsewhere to get that in at the end 🙂

It seems that she left an….. um…. impression up there on the ice. At least that evidence will melt as well…

I have to admit, that’s the first thing I saw too…

I hope his victim told someone where she’d be and with whom. Gary needs taking off the streets – permanently.
