FF – Day of the Star Triffid Wars
Here is my little (slightly plagiarised) story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Sarah Potter.
To read the other stories for this week, click on the blue froggy. The blue froggy who has upset me as he won’t allow me to upload my picture to the link-up. If anyone knows what “increase post_max_size and upload_max_filesize to 5M” means, let me know!

“The plants ruled all, encroaching on all civilisation, their vines, tentacle-like, wrapped around human and animal alike, sucking them dry. The few humans who could still see, those who hadn’t witnessed the blinding meteor shower…”
“Whoa! That’s ‘The Day of the Triffids’. You can’t write that.”
“Okay, fine, I have another idea anyway. There’s these warriors with freaky mind powers who use glowing swords, and they’re betrayed by one of their own who gets killed by his long-lost son who grew up on planet Tartrazine…”
“Does it take place in a ‘galaxy far, far away’?”
“Hey! Stop stealing my stories!”
Watch the skies. Keep watching the sky!

I’m still too scared to watch meteor showers.

You stole this entire story from me didn’t you? That was almost exactly what I wrote before I settled on what I put on ye olde blog.

‘Tis a week of liberties, methinks!
I got the same damn message and had to use the photo WP suggested… not sure why it chose this one but so be it

The picture immediately threw too many sci-fi films and programmes into my mind.
Sounds like a problem up their end, then 🙂

To be fair, it was my character that was doing the plagiarising 🙂
The linkup worked fine, it just wouldn’t upload my little picture.

Dear Ali,
They say that nothing’s really original these days. Ah triffids…one of my childhood memories. As for the inLinkz situation, I’ve been told it’s been fixed. Time will tell. I even had to have Dale link my post yesterday. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,
The triffids were always a bit scary as a kid.
At least I was able to link, even though the picture wouldn’t upload, so that’s the main thing 🙂

You can borrow this one if you like, I’m not using it at the moment. “YOU BLEW IT UP! AH, DAMN YOU! GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!” 🙂

Wow, what a great closing line! I’ll try to get that in even if it’s not relevant to the story, that’s how good it is.
Those were strong words for a film released in the 60’s, I bet.

This was a fun read. It’s always hard to block out all the books we’ve read, movies we’ve seen and song’s we’ve when we are trying to write.

Sometimes I’ll get a great idea only to realise that I saw it last night on Netflix… 🙂

LOL, these days it is hard to write something original. Loved it, made me laugh.

Nah! Stick to something more original, hmm, let’s say an alien baby sent up in a rocket before his planet exploded. Crashes to earth and despite growing up here insists on wearing his underpants outside his pants. And has super powers. Yeah work on that.

Wow, we need to collaborate on that and get it out before anyone else thinks of it. We’ll call it “Amazingman”, and he could come from a planet named after one of the noble gases, like Planet Neon or Argon or somewhere like that 🙂

Maybe I can blame the blinding meteor shower for why I was unable to connect to your blog all morning. It was just a few that weren’t working for me, but you were one of them. Maybe that’s why the blue froggy was ignoring you as well…

Maybe the plants took over the data centre. Weird things were happening in the bloggie world by the looks of it.

Notwithstanding the fact that it includes quotes from other works, it’s a pretty creative path you took from beginning with that picture as a prompt!

I think many people’s first thought was of the Triffids! Love the title and original take on the prompt.

Amusing take on the prompt, we both saw Triffids as many did. Plagiarism is OK by me as long as you develop on the original, which you did

That makes it fan-fic instead 🙂

Your story suits the prompt pic perfectly as well as many people’s gardens. Lol The Day of the Triffids was seriously freaky – silly but still freaky. Love the character’s voices here, too. Another fun read, Draliman! 🙂

It certainly resembles my garden at the moment. But it seems a shame to get rid of so much greenery just because it isn’t growing where it’s “supposed” to 🙂
