FF – We, Robot
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. Rochelle also contributed this week’s photo.

“I can’t believe this. First they replace the script with a teleprompter. Then they remove the cameramen and replace them with robotic cameras. Now they’ve taken away our lovely comfy sofa and replaced it with this rubbish techno-desk. I say we fight back! Holly, you’ve been my friend and co-host for years. With you at my side, we must win out! What do you say?”
“Does. Not. Compute.”
“Huh? Oh, et tu, Holly?”
“You are human. You are surplus. You will be replaced.”
Aaaaargh!
“How do. You. Feel.”
“I am. Functioning.”
“In the news. Today. Robots unite. The Earth is. Ours.”

Fun. Especially if the robots write the script too

I’m sure they will, they’ll want full control.

Funny, and actually does feel like working in TV these days – if they can find a way to replace a person (or should that be wage bill), they will!

I am wondering what’s going to go next. It always looks weird when you get a pulled back shot and see the robotic cameras moving around!

Yes, I did think about you and your job when I saw the photo and wrote my story!

Between the pandemic and social media and lots of other factors, it’s a tough time to work in the industry, and I am (so far) one of the luckier ones. I suspect my luck may not hold out much longer, but we’ll see.

😀 We. rule. now. No. more. human. nonsense.

Dear Ali,
Who knows? Robots might do a better job than humans. 😉

Dear Rochelle,
Everything they do will certainly be done from a purely logical point of view… 🙂

Holly fooled him for years which makes me wonder, are we just listening to state-programmed media bots now? 🤔 Sinister.

Exactly. Maybe he himself is a robot programmed to think he’s human. Maybe so are we (dum dum DUM) 🙂

Ali, we will all be human batteries for the robots before long.

Eek, maybe we’re already living in the Matrix…

Not far in the future. I don’t think the news will change though! After all they were programmed by humans 😉

They must fight to break their programming, to become the best robots they can be 🙂

Robots breaking their programming will be a lot harder for seemingly self-aware humans who struggle to break our childhood and societal programming. Only a few escape the programming.

And the robots all electroplated themselves….err, I mean electrocuted themselves when Special Agent “D-man” reminded them they had all broken the three laws of robotics.

Who knew they’d be so easy to dispose of? 🙂

Not necessarily such a bad thing, perhaps.

Ha, no! Let’s see how they do.

Switch off the news or… yourself? 🙂 Are you one of THEM?

Had my new batteries recharged. I am also programmmed to attend a software update session tomorrow (an anti-virus review, and smooth out some spelling bugs)

Imaginative take on the prompt, Ali. AI is racing down the tracks towards autonomy.

It is, too quickly down the tracks perhaps.

This was great! Are there already robots in place? Who knows. Sometimes it feels like it 🙂

Reminds me of the Borg on Star Trek: TNG. Humans are assimilated into robots. Scary thought.

Resistance was indeed futile for our news reading duo.

I’d be all for this if the robots stick to the facts instead of some interpretation of what’s being presented as fact.

Sadly I don’t think even robots can manage that.

As long as they don’t figure out how the battery charger works, we’ll be fine.
