FF – Neat and Tidy

Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

“There we go. Ta-da!”

“Hmm, very neat and tidy. Not very safe-looking, though. Propped up like that.”

“Rubbish, it’s fine.”

“Look, your mum’s at the window.”

“Boys, you’ve been working very hard! Do you fancy a snack? I can whip up…”

“Oh, God, nooooooo! Why, God, whyyyyyy? Now we’re gonna have to make our own snacks.”

“Well, shit.”

“Bollocks to that. Pub?”

“Yep. I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

The great answer to all problems. The pub

  3. November 18, 2021 at 12:17 am

    Poor old mum!!

    • November 18, 2021 at 1:36 pm

When they get back she’ll probably be sitting there all bandaged up with snacks made 😦

  4. November 18, 2021 at 1:52 am

Oh dear… What would we do without pubs to run off to?

  5. November 18, 2021 at 2:18 am

A lot of people don’t know of the safety of pubs. Well done humor.

Eh, Mum should expect this kind of treatment since the kids keep her locked up in the basement…

    • November 18, 2021 at 1:40 pm

The hospital will be a nice outing for her…

  7. November 18, 2021 at 11:07 am

Sons hey? overflowing with the milk of human kindness.

    • November 18, 2021 at 1:40 pm

My working title was actually “A Lack of Compassion”…

  8. November 18, 2021 at 11:48 am

Shedding a tear and laughing out loud. Hilarious story.

  9. November 18, 2021 at 12:30 pm

Poor mum, I hope they raised their glasses to her at the pub!

  10. November 18, 2021 at 2:47 pm

I wonder–did Mum bring this on herself by rearing a total bum? “I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Not bothering to check on her, no sense of needing to help her? Sheesh.

in the midst of the pandemic, they may find their favorite pub close. what now? 🙂

    • November 19, 2021 at 1:55 pm

I suppose they’d have to go back home and help Mum out from under the wood pile… 🙂

I suspect they mean’t well but stacking logs needs more practice. less time in the pub and more time building logs, I say. Poor Mum.

    • November 19, 2021 at 1:58 pm

It was a sloppy job right from the start. I suspect they were too eager to get to the pub.

I can just picture that screen…. and hear the screaming bitch that follows the crash! Great story.

    • November 19, 2021 at 2:01 pm

Maybe they’re better off making a break for the pub 🙂

    Dear Ali

Mum’s crushed. Let’s go to the pub. I hope she wrote him out of the will.

      Dear Rochelle,
I’ve decided she’s going to make a full recovery so that’s the first thing she’ll be doing once the bandages come off 🙂

Funny!!! A pub drink can help them gather the strength to face mom, if she survived.

Yes, let’s hope they stick with just the one, or Mum will have to dig herself out!

  16. November 19, 2021 at 7:56 pm

Laugh, splutter! Those boy-o’s sure have their priorities straight! But those logs really don’t look that well-balanced.

    • November 20, 2021 at 5:55 am

No, opening the window was the final straw for the logs. I expect they’ll be back later to rescue Mum and tidy up:-)

I think she should stop making them snacks! Haha. But, thank goodness for the pub.

    • November 21, 2021 at 6:49 am

      Yes, fewer snacks, more discipline!

  18. November 21, 2021 at 4:08 pm

    MOL…delicious mum…MOL😸Pawkisses🐾😽💞

  19. November 21, 2021 at 8:41 pm

It’s not that neat and tidy anymore, with the bloodstains on the window…

    • November 22, 2021 at 7:14 am

Yet something else the lads will have to clean up when they get home from the pub.

  20. November 22, 2021 at 4:13 pm

You’re right – those logs look very precarious. A classic Ali story, with your trademark heartless humour!
