A Homonym Too Far
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Rochelle herself!
I apologise in advance.
“This wine cellar is so small. I can feel my claustrophobia coming on.
“Why can I never find anything? There are so many bottles. They need organising.
“It always smells so musty down here.
“Here’s my Chateau Lafite 1869. I want to drink it so much but it cost so much money.
“I can’t cope with all this. Why me? Oh, God, WHY ME? Aaaaargh!”
—————————————————————————–
“Hi Margo, where’s Tarquin?”
“He’s down in his whine cellar.”

Tarquin! A perfect name for a whiner

Yep, a whiner with some expensive bottles.

Funny, I don’t see anything being sold by this cellar….

Ha, I did try to incorporate cellar/seller but given the issue with prepositions (in/with etc) it felt too contrived so I kept it simple…

Rare expensive wines can have that effect on you. Why would you want to drink them or even sell them, best to lock the cellar door and Tarquin will fell better wiping tables instead.

I’ve always wondered what people do with these expensive bottles. At least without them he’d have less to “wine” about.

A wonderful take, having a cellar of wine you cant drink must be torturous.

Very funny Ali, love the punch line. Apparently some very posh 100 year old wine tastes vile.

I love the name Tarquin. It always conjures up a picture of a namby pamby mummy’s boy.

Yes, and also “old money” – seemed the perfect name for a wealthy whiner!
