Lusty Glaze

June 21, 2014 16 comments

“Lusty Glaze”. Sounds a bit dodgy, right? At least to me.

Turns out it’s a beach! A tiny private beach, where we had this year’s work summer party. A lovely barbecue on a beautifully warm and sunny day last week.

I took these pictures as the sun went down. People (younger, fitter people than I) were playing football (that’s soccer, not handegg) and volleyball while the kids ran about having fun.

Finally my camera phone let me down a little. I can’t mess with the aperture and whatnot and I was facing the setting sun so it used the sun to get the light level.

A Morning at Godrevy

June 20, 2014 19 comments

Yesterday I went for a visit to Godrevy, another location owned by the National Trust. In contrast to Trelissick, Godrevy is all cliffs and beaches.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking 🙂

A Morning at Trelissick Garden

June 18, 2014 21 comments

I took a trip to Trelissick Garden yesterday and took some snaps. The first set are from the “woodland walk” (it goes down to the water before entering the woods) and the second is from inside the garden itself.

Here is the set from the gardens. Please excuse my finger at the top of one of the shots!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Crooked and Squiggly

June 18, 2014 20 comments

I haven’t done a “Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge” before, but I took a couple of photos yesterday which I thought fit with this one quite well. They’re not great as I am just a “happy snapper” with a camera phone, though I am getting into this photography thing, so a decent camera is now on my list (along with new TV and new bed).

The challenge is “crooked and squiggly”. I took these pictures at Trelissick Garden, which is owned by the National Trust (I’m on holiday for two weeks so I took a wander there yesterday – more photos to follow).

I’m not sure why the branches grew like this! In search of the sun?

Sharing My World Week 14

April 13, 2014 20 comments

It’s Share Your World time again, courtesy of Cee over at her photography blog. I’ll dive straight in.

If you had to describe your day as a traffic sign, what would it be?
That’s a tricky one.

Tricky tricky tricky.

I’ll go with the following:

bumpyroad

Bumpy road. That’s what most days are like. Especially at the moment when we’re still clearing up the work from last weekend while “normal” work is also there to be done. It can be quite confusing, like the following sign.

What the hell? I’ve been on a “roundabout of roundabouts” like this somewhere to the north of London, while following friends in another car. In the end I pretty much just followed them and hoped for the best. I didn’t have a clue what was going on. At least the hospital with A&E (that’s ER) department is clearly marked in case of unfortunate collisions!

Is your hair short (total neck and ear showing), medium (covering ears and neck), long (below shoulders), extra long (at least halfway down your back) or bald?
Short! “Four” on the back and sides, “eight” on the top (that’s measured in eighths of an inch). Here’s a picture of me from one of our websites, to illustrate (taken at Chapel Porth, Cornwall). Currently my hair is about the same length (I get it cut every 6 weeks) but I’ve lost a few pounds! Yay!

When you are with your friends, do your interactions include much touching—for example, hugging, kissing, rough housing, rubbing backs? Would you like to have more of this? (Note: the answers may vary depending on where you live on this wonderful planet.)
No touching. I emit an aura of “stay away” somehow. There are one or two friends I hug but I never initiate it.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable way to spend $100?
I wouldn’t be able to as it’s not legal tender. So the first thing to do is to convert it to GBP. I’m assuming that we’re talking USD here so that comes to just under £60, currently. Suddenly that doesn’t sound so much.

That’s a bit over a full tank of petrol for my Fiesta. I think I’d fill up the car, drive somewhere nice and I’d have a bit left over for some food and bits and bobs. Here’s somewhere nice (Colliford Lake, Cornwall).

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I’m grateful that the work at the weekend went well. I’m looking forward to getting the rest of it cleared away next week (though it probably won’t be completely done).

Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

March 29, 2014 29 comments

Here are some photos for this week’s photo challenge, which asks us to show some aspect of street life. I usually find old photos which are relevant to the prompt, but I was in town this morning and took these specially for the occasion!

Every Saturday there is a little market in my local city of Truro. There is locally-caught fish, meats, flowers, crafts and even an olive stall! I was going to buy flowers for Mother’s Day tomorrow but I ended up buying them in the supermarket instead.

A teeming metropolis of twenty thousand or so people, Truro is the only city in Cornwall. Today was cold and raining 😦 . These were taken at around 9 am this morning using my phone.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

March 16, 2014 31 comments

This week’s Photo Challenge from The Daily Post wants a photo which says “Inside”. I have two photos which show inside and outside!

When it’s a bit chilly outside (even though the sun has come out)…

Piazza, Truro

… it’s nice to snug up nice and warm in the living room of my new house with the gas fire on (and watch Dr Who).

Sharing My World Week 5

February 7, 2014 19 comments

It’s Sharing My World time again, part of the weekly “Share Your World” challenge hosted by Cee over at Cee’s Photography blog. Pop over and see her, and join in if you like. Share your world too!

If you had a choice to live anywhere would your preference be salt water beaches, forest, fresh water lakes, hot tub, ski resort or desert?
In common with several people this week I’d like to cheat a little and go for a combo. A cabin in a forest on the shore of a fresh water lake. Lovely!

I’m thinking we combine Colliford Lake in Cornwall (up the road from me) on the left, and Coed y Brenin Forest Park in North Wales on the right.

Chapel Porth

November 17, 2013 13 comments

Just a quick post for this Sunday evening. A couple of weeks ago everyone at work went down to Chapel Porth one carload at a time to get our photos taken for one of our websites. Chapel Porth is on the north coast of Cornwall, a few miles from my work.

There we stood on the beach next to cameras and a big professional lamp while older couples wandered past with their dogs. I snapped a few pictures with my phone while we were there.

Colliford Lake

September 15, 2013 17 comments

I thought I’d pop up some photos of my recent trip to Colliford Lake while I’m waiting for my muse to come back.

Colliford Lake is in Cornwall, UK. There are a couple of other pictures here.
